Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Rail Logistics Maintenance Group Leader. This role can be located at any Gulf Coast site/facility (Texas & Louisiana) or in Midland, MI.
About you and this role
The Rail Logistics Maintenance Group Leader is responsible for the leadership of the North America rail maintenance team which plans and executes all regulatory and unplanned maintenance on the Dow rail fleet. In addition, this role owns and manages the rail function capital and project management process including development of 10-year capital plan, management of all capital projects and new railcar asset acquisitions. This position also manages the yearly budget planning process, monthly forecasting and cost saving initiatives. The role drives value through improved efficiency, service, and sustainability in the tactical timeframes.
This role will work collaboratively across the Rail Logistics department, Strategic Planning, Integrated Supply Chain (Business, Customer Service, Site Operations, DSS and DSB) and Modal Procurement. Uses logistics knowledge, technical expertise and operations experience to assist in correcting process or equipment issues which improves process performance and reliability for railcar maintenance. Assists business/functional clients by leading/participating in improvement initiatives and supporting crisis management. You may need to lead small projects with manageable risks and resource requirements as well as serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues. You should also be able to explain difficult or sensitive information and work to build consensus with others.
Responsibilities
- Leads the railcar maintenance team to ensure all maintenance is completed on schedule, within budget to regulatory compliance at best cost while meeting business needs
- Facilitates the creation and modification of monthly, yearly, and 10-year railcar maintenance plan.
- Leads Rail Fleet Capital planning process
- Responsible for yearly budget creation, cost allocation and spend tracking
- Owns yearly asset verification process
- Owns PO creation process for on time and accurate payments
- Manages monthly payment and invoice process for maintenance and unallocated cost
- Cross functional collaboration with Treasury, Finance, and Purchasing to develop best cost strategies for asset acquisition
- Develops maintenance strategy, metrics and supporting tools for cost savings initiatives, efficiency improvement and long term sustainability
- Identifies and drives cost improvement/project ideas and efficiencies
- Manage monthly/quarterly forecast roll up to executive leadership for both rail logistics budget and capital spending
- Responsible for month end close activities including forecast reconciliation, updates and accruals
- Works collaboratively with Rail Fleet and Visibility teams to drive best practices and improve stakeholder experience
- Utilizes logistics knowledge, technical expertise and operations experience to assist in correcting process or equipment issues which improve process performance and reliability
- Works with technical advising and logistics operations personnel to create methods to optimize operations
- Leads advanced troubleshooting and coaches others to learn these skills. Implements best practices
- Ensures most effective technology and specific operating discipline requirements are in place
- Initiates changes to operating procedures to ensure that they are valid and up-to-date and participates or leads teams in the area of responsibility
- Supports procurement tender negotiation and implementation with operational expertise
- Adds value to logistics work processes by participating in process business/functional improvement efforts
- Identifies opportunities to minimize cost-to-serve through process improvements and proactively leads logistics initiatives and projects in areas of expertise
- Focal point for investigations, corrective actions, and issue escalation as it relates to railcar maintenance. Acts as RCI team Lead for P1 events
- Some travel to the Dow corporate site will be required if
