Capital One’s Community Finance team originates debt and equity to support affordable housing development. Community Finance provides debt financing, and invests in low income housing credits through proprietary and multifund equity fund structures. The team is on a journey to reimagine the way it operates through a more strategic approach to its core work and advocacy efforts, next-generation analytical and reporting capabilities, and innovative initiatives that leverage Capital One’s scale and influence.

This role will sit within the Underwriting and Portfolio Management team supporting the Community Development Financial Institutions team in an underwriting capacity. In this role you will be working on a team that is truly changing banking for good, driving operational excellence for Capital One’s CDFI program.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support preparation of credit approval packages.

  • Assist in due diligence, underwriting or asset reviews of individual transactions in compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Support portfolio management activities by monitoring financial performance and risk exposure.

  • Conduct financial analysis and modeling to assess feasibility.

  • Gather market data to support underwriting, asset or portfolio reviews.

  • Partner with internal teams to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal policies.

  • Lead the analysis and evaluation of opportunities, ensuring financial viability aligns with the organization's risk appetite, and social impact goals.

  • Monitor the portfolio performance for both financial health and social impact performance, collaborating with internal teams to ensure ongoing compliance with CDFI certification and grant funding requirements.

  • Identify and implement process improvements for capital deployment, impact reporting, and partner relationship management to maximize community reach and operational efficiency.

  • Contribute to process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent Certification

  • At least 4 years of experience in credit, lending, relationship management, or any combination of the three

  • At least 1 year of experience with mission-driven lending or investments or community development lending or investments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in program management, CDFI, small business lending, or any combination of the three

  • Experience collaborating with and coordinating a variety of stakeholders, including more senior stakeholders

  • Completion of formal credit training program, or equivalent work experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $131,300 - $149,800 for Principal Associate, Community Finance
