As a core team member, the Executive Director, Transaction Manager manages cross-functional transaction execution teams through the development and completion of large and complex reinsurance transactions within the Americas Financial Solutions line of business.  The Executive Director will engage with clients and internal partners to steer attractive opportunities through the transaction life cycle while ensuring that client objectives are addressed and RGA value is optimized.  Collaboration with subject matter experts and other transaction team members is critical in order to solve problems and develop effective and creative solutions. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a cross-functional project team of professionals of varying levels (including business development, pricing, investments, legal, and other corporate partners as needed) to structure, negotiate, and execute highly complex reinsurance transactions in North America.  Provide a point of leadership as well as coordinate a collaborative effort to develop optimal solutions to meet client objectives.

  • Manage the processes of analyzing transactions through interaction with the various technical experts in pricing, risk analysis, structured finance, accounting, legal, investments, tax, etc.  Anticipate, identify, and resolve issues that arise during the RGA transaction analysis process to maximize the chance of a successful outcome. Work with the transaction team to proactively identify any issues related to the transaction and coordinate with the appropriate technical experts to make sure these issues get properly resolved in a timely manner to maximize the chance of success.  Interpret internal/external challenges and drive problem solving to achieve improved client and RGA outcomes. Note that this position does not need to have all of the technical expertise to analyze a transaction and resolve every issue but must have enough of an understanding of the transaction, the issue and the organization to coordinate an appropriate response to resolve issues and successfully complete a transaction.

  • Craft and deliver regular communication of the status of a transaction and key outstanding issues, deadlines, challenges, etc. to interested stakeholders including Corporate partners, and other RGA senior management and Financial Solutions team members. 

  • Work closely with 'Financial Solutions' business development colleagues to facilitate the sales and negotiation process with the client. Aids business developers in relationship building during the transaction process. Enables business developers to effectively communicate challenging/complex issues to clients. This involves regular client contact and may involve periodic travel with business developers, as required.

  • Coordinate any necessary approvals to complete a transaction and ensure communication channels are open internally and externally.  This may either be done directly or in conjunction with the support of a Transaction Facilitator.

  • Coordinate implementation with the Risk Management team and provide for ongoing support of Financial Solutions reinsurance transactions, as is necessary.

Candidate Requisites

Education & Experience

  • BS/BA in Business, Actuarial Science or related degree, or equivalent experience; (MBA and/or FSA designation would be considered assets)

  • 10+ years of insurance, reinsurance or finance experience

  • 5+ years experience specializing in one or more of the following:

    • Financial reporting

    • Statutory & GAAP Accounting

    • Detailed insurance/reinsurance regulation & structure

    • Actuarial principles and/or modeling

    • Investment concepts

    • Capital management

  • 5+ years project management/project lead experience

Skills & Abilities

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills

  • Advanced interpersonal, leadership and motivational skills, demonstrating the ability to lead projects and mentor others

  • Advanced understanding of reinsurance concepts

  • Technical knowledge of actuarial science, investments, contract law, accounting or finance
