Job Summary
The VC Summer Engineering department is seeking an Engineer (I, II, or III) for a position in the Maintenance Support Engineering area. The desired candidate will have a background in mechanical or civil engineering. There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Primary area of focus will be mechanical component engineering in support of an operating nuclear power plant. Previous experience working with pumps, valves, piping systems, HVAC and fans, or other mechanical systems is desired. Specific duties include monitoring and trending of component health, generation of periodic reports and presentations to management team, and preparation of engineering technical evaluations, design changes, and calculations of mechanical components. Develop maintenance plans and evaluate abnormal conditions for assigned components. Provide engineering support of operational and maintenance activities during power operation and plant outages. Perform walkdowns, investigations, and develop corrective actions. Predictive Maintenance experience such as vibrations, oil analysis, and rotating equipment experience desired. Support Emergency Response Organization.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Engineer I: 0-2+ years of relevant engineering experience; Engineer II: 3+ years of relevant engineering experience; Engineer III: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience. Application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals; Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position; Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives; Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management; Ability to perform engineering calculations using Matlab, Excel, etc; Planning, organizational and project management skills; Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills; Effective decision making skills; Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing); Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems; Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices; Equally effective working independently or in a team environment; Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks. An Engineering PhD can be substituted for up to 5 years' experience based on research engineering work on directly related projects approved by executive leadership. REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
