Summary
Keeps premises of school buildings, in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.
- Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, stairways, and locker rooms and other work areas.
- Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floor.
- Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies. Dusts furniture and equipment.
- Polishes metalwork. Washes walls, ceiling, and woodwork. Washes windows, door panels, and sills. Empties wastebaskets, and transports trash and waste to disposal area.
- Replenishes bathroom supplies. Replaces light bulbs.
- Sets up tables and chairs in auditorium or hall. Notifies supervisor of any repair needs.
Additional Duties:
- Performs general cleaning, and repair work, particularly during school vacations.
- Assists parents and other visitors to school buildings with special events and programs.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

- Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:- High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance desirable.
- AZ Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.
- Six months to one year related experience and/or training.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Equipment
Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners.
Safety Requirements
Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.
Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks.
Must comply with school district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel between schools, or between schools and central office, may be required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal and others.
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
- Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts. <
