Overview

Vanguard’s Internal Audit & SOX (IAS) department has an exciting opportunity for an IT Audit Director on our Global Technology Audit Services (GTAS) team. Summary

This role reports to the GTAS Department Head and is responsible for leading a team comprised of both leaders and specialists who are responsible for delivering risk-based audit and consulting engagements across a variety of IT platforms and functions.

This role is ideal for those enthusiastic about crew development, coaching, and people leadership.  It is also ideal for those adept at building strong and trusting partnerships with IT leadership.  As a senior leader of the GTAS team, you will be expected to bring a collaborative and development focused approach and environment to the team, working side by side with aligned departments in an agile setting. We look for individuals who have IT expertise and experience in one or more areas (e.g., application, cloud, network, vulnerability management, access control, cybersecurity, database administration), can think critically and conceptually, have excellent relationship management, communication, influence, judgement, and decision-making skills.

What it takes

  • Hire, evaluate, and supervise crew. Provide mentorship and training as necessary to develop crew. Set performance standards, review performance, and make informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Lead all aspects of the audit and consulting plan for aligned technology division(s) and functional area(s), including developing audit scope, objectives, and work plans. Adjust and change the plan as appropriate.
  • Lead audit and consulting engagements to ensure the timely delivery of the highest quality work and value-add recommendations. Oversee multiple engagement teams concurrently working in a matrixed team environment. Approve overall objectives and scope of engagements and issue audit reports to senior management. Conclude audit and consulting findings and present ratings and recommendations to department and technology senior management.
  • Communicate the status and results of audit and consulting plan as well as enterprise-wide topics to various levels of management. Influence management in the aligned technology division(s) and functional area(s) to act on recommendations to strengthen the control environment and make process improvements.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with management and risk partners for aligned technology division(s) and functional area(s). Share perspectives and connects relevant industry acumen, including best practices, audit standards, competitors, regulatory environment, and global impact with technology processes.
  • Support the creation of reports for senior management and contributes to reporting for the audit committee, regulators, and external auditors.
  • Lead one or more department projects to deliver on operational and strategic goals.
  • Participate in the development and management of the departmental budget and may contribute to the planning of the broader function budget. Reviews expenses to ensure team is operating within budgetary guidelines.
  • Participate in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of eight years related work experience; audit, risk, or controls experience.
  • Minimum of eight years people leadership and /or supervisory experience.
  • Proven experience in influencing, persuading, and making pitches to senior leadership.
  • Strong understanding and appreciation of information technology (e.g., application development, cloud, network infrastructure, cybersecurity.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience

Special Factors

  • Previous experience in Security and Privacy is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in Data Analytics preferred.
  • Graduate degree preferred.
  • CIA, CISSP, CCSP, CEH, CompTIA Security+, GSEC, CISA, PMP, ITIL, AWS Cloud Architect, or other professional designation preferred.
