About the Role

The primary function of the Manager, Quality & Operations Performance position is to develop and administer load quality training materials, implementation of these techniques, and quality loading practices with a primary focus in Auburn.

Additionally, you will be responsible for Dock / Yard oversight at the beginning of each daily shift. This oversight will then transition into Quality assurance as the shift progresses.

What you’ll do: (this list is not all inclusive)

  • Establish, distribute, and train load quality tactics and techniques to reduce claims exposure.
  • Create improved communication between Span Dock Operations (all facilities), OS&D, and claims department.
  • Identify high claims customers and develop freight “handlers” for improved handling techniques.
  • Ensure that freight is loaded, unloaded, palletized and mark appropriately.

Secondarily:

  • Ensure trailers get stripped in a timely manner by coordinating the work of others and participating in the process.
  • Load and unload and/or coordinate others to load and unload vehicles such as trucks, vans, flatbed trucks, and box trucks.
  • Move freight around yard and warehouse using a forklift or other moving equipment.
  • Train and orient newly hired personnel.

Communication/Customer Contact:

  • Communication skills are necessary as the position interacts with other employees and may interact with customers, vendors, contractors, and/or suppliers. Contacts are typically face-to-face but may be via telephone. Communication is rarely about confidential information.

Supervision/Management:

  • Position is Supervisory in nature and may supervise a group, including non-exempt staff to include Leads and/or Supervisor level employees.

You have these skills:

  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to drive a variety of vehicles in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Good verbal communication and customer service skills (in English).
  • Ability to read and write English in order to complete paperwork.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Must exercise good judgment, decision making and focus.
  • Must be conscientious and aware of safety procedures and issues.
  • Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to block and brace loads on a flatbed truck.
  • Knowledge of warehouse equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of good lifting techniques.

And these qualifications:

  • High school education is required.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience is required.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Extra credit if you have:

  • Freight handling and commodities experience helpful.
  • Ability to travel periodically.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to push or pull heavy loads (up to 200 pounds). Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Must be able to operate all equipment in warehouse or in a vehicle, which may include grasping, climbing, bending, handling, reaching, fingering, feeling/touching and repetitive motions of the hands and feet.

Work Environment:

  • Work is typically performed in a general warehouse environment buy may also be conducted outside in the elements. Exposure to exhaust fumes is likely. Overtime may be mandatory when needed. Conditions may also include exposure to environmental noise.
