The McGill University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor as Director of the Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Institute. A tenure stream position may be available for the selected candidate.

McGill University’s Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Institute, a key unit within the new School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS), brings together world-leading scientists and clinicians in a vibrant and collaborative academic environment. Our mandate is to serve as a centre for revolutionary cancer research, fostering a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment. Supported by top-notch research facilities, technological platforms and dedicated faculty members, research staff, and administrative professionals, and attracting outstanding students, our teams are tackling the most important problems in cancer research through innovative thinking and a multidisciplinary approach. Over its history, the Institute has welcomed some of the most brilliant minds in the field of cancer research whose work has led to ground-breaking discoveries that have contributed to the advancements we see today in how we prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer.

Research at the Institute addresses unmet clinical needs in cancer by discovering how tumours initiate and progress, identifying their weaknesses, and developing therapeutic strategies. The Institute is a hub in broad, multidisciplinary networks linking the laboratory and the clinic to address key challenges in cancer research, leveraging diverse strengths across the University and with clinical and research partners across the McGill-affiliated healthcare network. Key research areas include cancer metabolism, tumor microenvironment, cancer genome biology, RNA biology and therapeutics, early-stage cancers, and high-fatality cancers.

Institute members are committed to accelerating discoveries in cancer research by generating new knowledge and working with partners to translate this information to improve diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for cancer patients. We bring together the best minds across various disciplines and help to train the next generation of cancer research leaders. Faculty members have rich collaborative ties with departments and institutes across McGill, Quebec, and internationally. With 24 core members, 33 associate and affiliate members, 203 research trainees (including undergraduates, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows), 6 advanced technological platforms, >$200 million in operating support, infrastructure, team grants, and contracts in the last 10 years, the Institute has demonstrated leadership at the national and international level since its founding in 1978.

The Institute is proud to host a respectful, multi-disciplinary, and inclusive work setting in its multiple areas of activity, which includes the training of a diverse group of students. We are committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) across our research and innovation ecosystem. By incorporating EDI, we strengthen our research and harness a broader range of ideas, skills, expertise, perspectives, and disciplines, which further enhances outcomes, impact, and social relevance that better reflects the diverse and globalized world we live and work in, and our responsibilities to the peoples and the lands where we live and work.

As Director, the successful candidate will oversee faculty recruitment, mentorship, and career development while directing scientific and operational activities of the Institute. The Director will work closely with the leadership of the other units that make up the School of Biomedical Sciences, advise the SBMS Director and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and represent the Institute externally, in Quebec, nationally and internationally.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop, communicate, and implement a unifying
