OVERVIEW
This position is located within the Audience Development Team (ADT), Education and Experience, Division of Public History at the National Museum of American History (NMAH), Smithsonian Institution (SI).The National Museum of American History empowers people to create a just and compassionate future by exploring, preserving, and sharing the complexity of our past. The Audience Development Team creates public engagements that specifically focus on the audiences identified in the Audience Plan of the Museum. We engage, empower, and inspire visitors through history, sparking dialogue and building relationships with visitors through personal interactions and hands on learning—all building toward a lively, active, and thought-provoking museum experience. We create destination experiences that foster dialogue and create community by connecting people with the museum and each other. The primary purpose of the position is to produce creative programming to attract, educate, and enrich target audiences; plan and coordinate logistical details; and produce content for in-person programming as well as for the museum website, social media outlets, and other outreach initiatives. The ability to read, write and speak in English and Spanish with advanced proficiency is required for this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in developing, organizing, conducting, and assessing the effectiveness of public programs and services that support the Museum’s interpretive initiatives to provide an important link between the Museum and visitors, policy makers, artists, scholars, community organizations, and the public.
- Takes steps necessary to ensure the successful execution of programs (e.g. festivals, music production, film screening/discussion programs, panel discussions) to meet the objectives of museum exhibits and collections.
- Collaborates with internal and external participants in program segment planning, production of full scale programs of limited complexity, and execution to ensure effective communication and clear understanding of objectives.
- Communicates in English and Spanish with a wide range of museum visitors and stakeholders.
