Physical Security Industry Specialist, SPEAR - Special Testing Team

The Special Programs, Evaluations, Assessments and Response (SPEAR) Special Testing Team (STT) is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and innovative physical security industry specialist. STT is responsible for engaging in physical penetration tests designed to drive bar raising physical security change at Amazon properties around the globe. Our teams test the assumptions, effectiveness and designs of physical and technical security measures by simulating real-world conditions. STT security industry specialists adopt an adversarial mindset to help mitigate against damage, disruption, theft and reputational risk. The data and observations from STT’s tests inform the company’s security risk owners and physical security business partners where gaps and best practices exist.

A successful candidate should have a demonstrated record of accomplishment and expertise within a specific set of physical security domains and embody Amazon’s 16 Leadership Principles. You will be expected to manage tight deadlines, maintain flexibility, drive results, plan, and coordinate detailed operations related to the physical security of Amazon and its customers. This requires maintaining a high degree of situational awareness in a wide variety of global environments. You must also be able to perform strenuous physical activities, be willing to work in austere environments, and able to handle high-stress situations.

You will be required to follow the policies, procedures, and team rules of engagement without deviation and use high-value judgement when dealing with ambiguity. You must be an effective leader, able to operate autonomously, and maintain composure when managing rapidly evolving situations. You will exercise discretion when dealing with sensitive information and apply sound business principles and data analysis to identify problems and prioritize appropriate remediation. You will drive continuous process improvements and collaborate effectively with cross-functional business teams to earn trust, solve problems and implement new solutions. This position is virtual, open to any US location in close proximity to an airport for travel.


Key job responsibilities
• You will work across teams and organizations on programs, products, and/or projects to define strategies and lead execution
• Influence strategy across multiple security domains and have a larger business and security architecture view
• Use your physical security subject matter expertise to assess the effectiveness of technology and business trade-offs
• Drive business and technical discussions to make decisions justified by available data
• Identify opportunities to simplify approaches throughout the organization and across project boundaries
• Decouple dependencies, and prevent duplicate or wasted efforts
• Define business problems, set objectives, analyze data, drive improvements, and influence resource allocation
• Develop mechanisms to inspect, monitor, and improve delivery over time
• Be capable of holding a team to a high standard for both solutions and practices
• Mentor and develop others in the same organization


A day in the life
As a security industry specialist, you will look to identify physical design, technical, mechanical, and behavioral gaps within the physical security space of Amazon sites around the world. We accomplish this primarily through discreet physical pentesting of Amazon facilities. You can expect to serve as a test team lead as you guide security industry specialists to provide meaningful impact for our partners and customers. You will also partner with our customers to dive deep into the issues that are found.

STT is comprised of security industry specialist subject matter experts and senior professionals in their domain. Each individual team is supervised by a regional manager. Every security industry specialist possesses a specific skill set that compliments the team's ability to identify and develop non-linear options for testing the physical security posture of a selected site. You will be an integral member of a team that leverages technical and mechanical means to accomplish the team’s goal.
