Job Description
General Summary
Lead the strategic and operational planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based educational initiatives. Provide administrative and educational leadership for training and simulation, identifying opportunities for innovation, program expansion, funding, and research in collaboration with the Medical Director, Associate Directors, nursing, and administrative team to optimize and deliver an exceptional and successful simulation-based education and training program for the University of Maryland Medical System. Work is performed under general direction. Direct report to the Director, Center of Healthcare Transformation
Primary Responsibilities

- Lead strategic planning initiatives for the Program in coordination with the Center collaborating with the Medical Director, Associate Directors, and administrative team.
- Foster productive relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and learners within UMMC and UMB and the VA to enhance collaboration and support for the Program’s initiatives.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and practice standards for the Program.
- Provide oversight for the development of a wide range of simulation-based education programs that align with the organization’s goals and improves clinical practice and patient outcomes.
- Provide oversight and direction for training and certification courses developed by national organizations such as the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- Develop and implement evaluation methods to assess the effectiveness of simulation programs, including feedback mechanisms, performance metrics, and outcome measures.
- Work with the Medical Director and Associate Directors to develop a faculty development curriculum related to education and simulation.
- Collaborate with clinical leaders, educators, and other stakeholders to integrate simulation training into broader educational initiatives.
- Provide direction and oversight of the team supporting simulation to optimize operational efficiency and performance.
- Monitor the needs of the Center in quality/safety/efficiency and develop trainings to address issues.
- Maintain data on courses and learners that utilize the Program.
- Maintain data on equipment utilization and equipment repairs that can be utilized for annual budget planning or capital budget requests.
- Manage the simulation Program’s budget, resources, and scheduling to maximize utilization and effectiveness.
- Attain and maintain simulation accreditation through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
- Stay current with developments in the field of simulation technology and learning theories.
- Seek funding opportunities for research related to education, patient safety, quality improvement, and innovation in collaboration with the Medical Director.
- Seek industry funding for equipment, research and development in collaboration with the Medical Director.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators, determine gaps in performance metrics, and recommend/execute change management techniques for efficiency/quality improvements.
- Identify and resolve operational and performance gaps and obstacles; recommend/implement changes and improvements.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, problem solving, innovation, continuous learning, and a one team mindset.
