Basic Function
The Mechanical Maintenance & Reliability Engineer position provides primarily rotating and fixed equipment mechanical engineering support at LYB Chocolate Bayou.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Troubleshoot issues with mechanical equipment (reciprocating compressors, pumps, gearboxes, blowers, polymer compounding equipment)
• Support plant outages, both planned and unplanned
• Assess performance / condition of machinery, bearings, seals, polymer equipment
• Conduct investigations to determine root cause of equipment failures, complete and close findings as required
• Active member of site area optimization teams which identify, prioritize, and resolve leveraging maintenance / reliability / production issues
• Provide technical support to both operations and maintenance
• Provide technical/engineering specifications for design of new and inspection/repair of exiting pieces of mechanical equipment
• Provide support to establish adequate spare parts and recurring preventative maintenance tasks on equipment
• Provide planning support for major machinery overhauls, specifying scope of required work and technical details to ensure successful execution
• Provide technical support for plant expense and capital projects
• Support and participate in the site’s safety programs
Min. Qualifications
• B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 0 – 3 years of experience in refining, petrochemical, or chemical environment preferred.
• Must demonstrate a working knowledge of all applicable engineering codes/standards and their application
• A thorough knowledge of operating processes, equipment, and materials, as well as critical analytical skills are needed to effectively evaluate equipment performance and problems
• General knowledge of project management, reliability engineering and root cause analysis.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are critical for the resolution of issues associated with completing day to day activities and are key to the ability to relate complex concepts to a diverse workforce
• Critical analytical skills are needed to effectively evaluate equipment performance and trouble-shoot equipment and process problems

Preferred Qualifications
• Preferred 2+ years’ experience
• Knowledge of machinery vibration analysis and lube oil analysis preferred
