Role & Responsibilities

Reporting into the Sr. Director Strategy and Operations for National Retail/Strategic Accounts, the Director, Product Management & Strategy will lead a team responsible for the overall management of Samsung’s portfolio of mobile device products and services and will drive product selection and go-to-market strategy in collaboration with our carrier partners. The position would also be responsible for monitoring, sensing and reporting on competitive positioning of the Samsung portfolio of devices in the market place and identify opportunities for growth and expansion. In addition, this role will also function as the “Chief of Staff” leading the preparation for all key business reviews and briefings for both internal leadership and external stakeholders. To succeed, this leader will use their strong selling, influencing and story-telling skills at the executive level to persuade and drive positive growth. This role requires strong customer focus, high energy, creativity, a results driven mindset with a “never take no” approach.

Role and Responsibilities

[Position Objective]

  • Responsible for planning the mobile device roadmap and portfolio strategy that is needed to grow Samsung’s business at U.S. regional and MVNO carriers
  • Product selection, sell-in, ranging of all new smartphone, tablet, productivity, wearable, accessory and other products and related services to US regional/MVNO carrier customers
  • Identifying and understanding carrier’s device roadmap and portfolio strategy, as well as developing areas of product and service collaboration with the carrier
  • Provide new product and service requirements to Samsung’s Global Product Planning and R&D to better align our product and service roadmap with the needs of the carrier customer 
  • Lead product compliance testing, customization and overall device commercialization in coordination with R&D and in accordance with carrier customer process requirements
  • Monitor post-launch product performance and quality KPI’s taking corrective action as needed.  Lead overall product life cycle management including software updates and end-of-life planning with the carrier customer
  • Provide product support to the sales & marketing team for all retail go-to-market activities
  • Monitor and develop sensing on competitive sales, Samsung market positioning and market share across all relevant categories and price segments
  • Lead the creation of all materials and briefs for internal SEA/HQ business reviews and customer meetings

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.  Master degree preferred
  • Must have 12+ years of work experience in Product Management, Product Planning or Product Marketing in consumer electronics, networking, telecommunications, embedded software, semiconductor or related technology industry
  • Requires 10+ years of experience leading a high-performance, product management, planning or marketing team preferably in a multi-national corporate environment
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience with consumer mobile products (smartphone, tablet, productivity, wearables) and the underlying wireless technologies
  • Requires a broad and deep understanding of mobile hardware and software
  • Strong understanding of the overall wireless ecosystem is a must, including OS providers, app providers, service providers, OEMs and carriers
  • Strong appreciation and understanding of mobile device user experiences, and the ability to understand how user interfaces impact consumer preferences and behaviors
