About the role

Description

 

The Director of Persistence Support Resources is responsible for programs and services that support student persistence to graduation, including emergency aid and Closing the Gap initiatives and the Act 101 FALCONERS program. The Director serves on the leadership team for the First Year Experience, supports academic recovery programs through midterm grade outreach and student success coaching, and is a member of the Care Team. The Director of Persistence Support Resources also serves as the PA Fostering Independence point-of-contact for Cedar Crest College, and works with College partners to expand programs and funding for persistence initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 ·         Direct the Act 101 FALCONERS programs: determine student eligibility for Act 101 and meet with students who are eligible for Act 101 program support on an individual basis, create academic plans and provide support, advice, tutoring, and referral to on and off-campus resources; attend Act 101 meetings and coordinate Act 101 advisory board meetings; maintains written records of student progress in compliance with Act 101 requirements; and submits all reporting necessary to the state.

·         Chair the Retention and Persistence committee, coordinate the retention efforts across various areas of campus.

·         Co-chair the Closing the Gap committee.

·         Co-chair Crest to the Future, the first-generation extended summer orientation program.

·         Manage the distribution of emergency aid funds and documentation in compliance with College policies, work with the Assistant Director of Residential Education and Leadership to maintain the Resource Pantry, and lead basic needs resources initiatives and programs.

·         Work with Institutional Advancement and Alumnae Affairs to identify funding opportunities for basic needs and emergency aid resources.

·         Work with the First Year Experience leadership team to ensure the effectiveness of the FYE program, particularly for first generation students and students from under-privileged backgrounds.  

·         Assist the Provost with programming for the Tri-Alpha First Generation Honor Society.

·         Serve on the Care Team

·         Serve as the PA Fostering Independence point-of-contact and assist students from the foster care system with accessing community and campus resources.

·         Manage SingleStop and coordinate case distribution.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education and Training

·         Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in social work, Counseling or Higher Education preferred

·         3-5 years related experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

·         Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory required.

·         Significant experiences providing support services for at-risk student populations and students from diverse backgrounds required.

·         Experience in managing programs and program budgets.

·         Effective verbal and written communication, leadership, organizational, analytical, training, interpersonal and delegating skills.

·          Must be customer service oriented.

·         Working knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations.

·         High energy level required.

·         Excellent communication skills

·         Desire to work with students with a variety of academic needs.

·         Ability to problem solve.

·         Ability to work closely with faculty and staff.

·         Ability to prioritize workload and maintain high degrees of productivity with minimal supervision.

·         Ability to make ethical decisions at times where judgment is required.

·         Must be able to manage complex data, assessment, and reporting.

·         Ability to understand, interpret and accurately communicate the complex College policies.

·         Ability to effectively communicate with a varied student body as well as the ability to work comfortably in complex interpersonal situations.

·         Integrity to ensure confidentiality in handling sensitive student issues.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

·         Visual and hearing ability to perform all required duties related to the position with reasonable accommodation

·         Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a PC and office equipment with reasonable accommodation

·         Evening/weekend hours are required
