THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITY ASSISTANT

• Follow an overall rehabilitation philosophy and provide guidance to fellow staff and clients in methods of achieving them.
• Empower consumers to choose among options and participate in all decisions that affect them
• Peer support: Mutual support plays an invaluable role in recovery
• Encourage consumers to be responsible for their own self-care and journeys of recovery.
• Assist in preparing and cooking meals.
• Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the program.
• Participate in and accompany members in outings and activities.
• Follow safety policy, protocols as set forth by Independence Health Systems and Caregivers of SWPA
• Ability to effectively engage and motivate members to participate in activities
• Act honestly and ethically in all member interactions
• Ability to effectively work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and encourage building of natural community support
• Follow all program and organization policies and procedures
• Other duties as assigned.

 

Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]

Required Qualifications/Experience

 

• High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education.
• Customer service experience
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments
• Knowledge of basic Office Equipment such as copier, fax machine, etc.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook
• Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
• Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.

 

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

 

• Behavioral Health experience
• Experience in Healthcare setting.

 

License, Certification & Clearances

 

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
• Valid Driver’s License (if out of state hire, the record report from applicable state’s driver license department is required)
• Act 33 Clearance with renewal
• Act 34 Clearance with renewal
• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
• Child mandated court Reporting Training within 30 days of hire or transfer
• Must obtain Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP) within two years of hire or transfer

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

 

• Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
• Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
