JOB TITLE: Bell Captain  


JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for all aspects of Bell Service operations including overall guest satisfaction and supervision of employees. Responsible for training and disciplining of bell staff; related departmental paperwork and financial management of department.


REPORTS TO: Guest Services Manager


PRIMARY DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

· Participate actively in the daily operation of the department, and have thorough knowledge of all bell service duties, procedures, policies, and systems.

· Maintain harmony among employees, guests, and management.

· Assist in interviewing and hiring bell staff personnel.

· Prepare work assignments for bell staff personnel.

· Organize and schedule all staff training.

· Coach, counsel, evaluate, and discipline staff as needed.

· Complete necessary departmental paperwork.

· Facilitate newspaper reservations for guests.

· Oversee dry cleaning tickets along with pick-ups and drop-offs.

· Cooperate and communicate with Guest Services, Housekeeping, and Front Desk in order to serve guests efficiently.

· Perform miscellaneous tasks and duties for smooth operation of department.

· Cover all positions when needed.



PRIOR EXPERIENCE: Prior Bell Person or Door Attendant experience is helpful but training is provided.  


RESPONSIBLE FOR: Guest vehicles and keys.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must have the ability to work at tasks that require walking, lifting and carrying. Must be able to lift 75 pounds. Job requires driving. Mobility is essential for this position.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work takes place primarily inside of the hotel, although outside work may be required. Work schedule includes nights, weekends and holidays. Must have the ability to work in both hot and cold climate, sometimes extreme.


HAZARDS ENCOUNTERED: Typical hazards associated with physical work, including lifting, carrying, bending and exposure to various weather conditions, hot, cold, ice, sleet, snow, rain, etc.

Requirements

 

SKILLS REQUIRED: Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions in English. Good manners, good speaking voice, excellent customer relation skills. Proficient organizational and supervisory skills. Must have good communication skills, be service oriented and must possess a valid driver’s license.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language. 


SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: After training, have knowledge of the hotel layout and grounds, surrounding communities and departmental procedures. 

 

PERSONALITY REQUIREMENTS: Must be friendly, hospitable, courteous, service oriented, trustworthy, reliable, flexible and self-motivated.
