Summary
Charleston Southern University invites applications for a Professor of Aeronautics beginning November 1, 2025. Work Performed
The successful candidate for this position will work closely with the Department Chair and Dean to administer aviation-related curriculum to students in the Professional Pilot degree program; assist with the administration of the flight laboratories, and coordinate administration of ground and flight instruction with flight training contractor; ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory guidelines and university policies; provide recommendations and implementations to the Department Chair for the enhancement of curriculum, the flight operations facilities, equipment, employee training and laboratory safety practices; and ensure compliance with rules, regulations and procedures relevant to FAR Part 141 certification and academic accreditation.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in aviation, aeronautics, engineering, or a course of study or experience relevant to duties. Significant professional military or commercial aviation experience and either military or FAA-certified flight instruction and/or space operations, aviation maintenance or aviation-related management experience. Experience teaching courses necessary for FAA certificates or ratings or military equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate degree in aviation, aeronautics, engineering, or a course of study relevant to duties. FAA Advanced and Instrument Ground Certificates (AGI and IGI). FAA Airline Transport Pilot certification or U.S. military Command Pilot designation. Other flight training, ratings, endorsements, and flight instruction experience, to include (but not limited to): UAS, Rotary Wing, Aerobatics and/or Tailwheel. Significant aerospace-related maintenance, management, and operations experience in commercial or military sectors.
Effective communication, organization, and administrative skills. Experience building and administering FAA Part-141 certified collegiate aviation curriculum. Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Word and Excel especially, experience with Blackboard or other curriculum administration software. Ability to maintain professional and harmonious relationships with diverse populations. Familiarity with foreign certification activities.
