The Battery Cell Manufacturing Process group develops innovative processes that enable robust manufacturing for next-generation battery cell designs. This leadership role offers the opportunity to lead a team advancing new battery cell formation and production automation technologies in support of GM’s electrification vision.
What You’ll Do
Champion safety in all development activities
Lead development and implementation of new automation and formation processes for battery cell manufacturing
Supervise and develop a team focused on advanced battery cell manufacturing processes
Recruit, coach, and develop team members
Set technology roadmap objectives aligned with GM’s electrification strategy
Manage development budgets and lab resources
Lead specification, procurement, and qualification of prototype equipment and tooling
Partner with battery cell design, research, and manufacturing teams to bring new concepts into production
Lead technical engagements with external partners and support co-development strategies
Present project updates, development concepts, and recommendations to leadership
Drive continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
Apply lean principles and structured problem-solving tools in process development
Provide technical direction to support teams, vendors, labs, and plant manufacturing teams
Travel as needed for meetings and site visits
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field
5+ years of relevant engineering or manufacturing experience
3+ years of experience in battery cell process development
Strong knowledge of electrochemical engineering
Experience leading external technical partnerships
Experience leading implementation of new technologies or processes
Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently with sound technical judgment
Preferred Qualifications
Statistical problem-solving training
Experience in manufacturing plant operations
Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools such as Minitab, Red X, or DFSS
