The Agency You’ll Join

The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five
boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. New York
City Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York City's government. Previously,
Mayor Adams has served the people of New York City as an NYPD officer, state senator, and Brooklyn

The Team You’ll Work With

The Office of Federal Affairs coordinates the City's interaction with the Federal administration and
Congress. The office keeps the Mayor and City agencies informed about pending or important issues
affecting the City. The office also advocates on behalf of the city and is the DC liaison between the City
and other cities seeking to work together on federal issues.

The Problems You’ll Solve

As a member of the Intergovernmental Affairs (IGA) team, the Senior Advisor for Federal Affairs will:
- Prepares the City’s Federal Agenda as part of the Mayor’s Budget and actively pursues these
initiatives to meet budgetary goals.
- Coordinates the evaluation of the Federal budget and local legislative changes or proposed
changes to determine their fiscal impact on the City's budget.
- Develops legislative timetable to ensure agency involvement at appropriate points in the
legislative process; assures the flow of key information to CH and Federal officials.
- Regularly briefs senior staff, OMB, and other high-level City officials on legislative and budget
issues.
- Draft position memoranda, fiscal impact statements, and testimony on the Federal Budget and
pending legislation.
- Develop work objectives for staff, monitor the performance of staff, and provide staff training
to develop necessary skills.

About You

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of six years of full-time experience in budgetary
planning/management, financial analysis, public policy analysis, or a related field; or an awarded
master’s degree in public administration, Economics, Finance, Business or a related subject and a
minimum of four years of full-time experience in Business, Public Policy Administration, Finance,
Economics or a field related to the specific assignment. Applicants must also possess at least three
years of supervisory experience.
- You must have detailed knowledge of the Federal legislative process and elected officials.
- You must have exceptional organizational, research, and analytic skills.
- You have outstanding written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and
presentation.
- You are able to set and meet pressured deadlines to satisfy budget and financial plan
preparation, update, and reporting requirements.
- You are a candidate who should also possess the ability to manage multiple, often-competing
priorities, and manage staff effectively to ensure properly skilled individuals are assigned to and
satisfy specific needs.
- You have the ability and desire to travel to Washington during crucial points in the Federal
legislative session.
- You are proficient with MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Access is required.
- You must be a self-motivator and be able to motivate others.
- You must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications
