Job Summary

The Senior Environmental Specialist supports Company policies and procedures and Departmental Leadership, to assure that the Company operations are in compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental protection regulations. This role will assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of policies and procedures to achieve compliance in the most cost-effective manner while avoiding the negative impacts of noncompliance. The Senior Environmental Specialist has a proactive mindset and looks forward to the opportunity to be part of meaningful and impactful initiatives that drive the future of Southwest.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with enterprise-wide environmental regulatory compliance
  • Support environmental regulatory policy and procedure development for existing and proposed regulation
  • Assist in developing environmental training programs that align with environmental policies and procedures
  • Assist in environmental inspection and oversight
  • Assist with review of legal obligations associated with Company contracts or leases
  • Represent Southwest Airlines before environmental regulators and industry
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • General working environmental knowledge as it applies to environmental regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex technical information
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience
  • Intermediate level experience, fully functional broad knowledge in:
    • Corporate environmental work
  • Preferred: Experience with air regulations
  • Preferred: Knowledge of environmental regulations

Licensing/Certification
  • N/A

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
