The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an experienced individual to become our Nursing Instructor for Clinical Education. The Clinical Educator will assess clinical training and education needs, evaluate training and education results, and recommend changes to the Education and Training Leader. The Clinical Educator consults with professional subject matter experts on the planning and implementation of clinical education and training programs, and also collaborates with the Quality Management Department to ensure training and education materials meet regulatory and Joint Commission requirements. The incumbent plans, develops, and conducts clinical education and training programs utilizing adult learning theories and principles. This position works with clinical department leaders to ensure orientation, continuing education, and mandatory training is completed and tracked.

 

Hours: Monday-Friday 8-4:30PM, Saturday and Sunday Off

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Assesses clinical training needs of employees by communicating with department leaders and reviewing existing training programs.
  • Evaluates, plans, and implements the educational and training programs based on the learning needs of the clinical staff and the needs of the patients.
  • Oversees clinical competency program for clinical staff.
  • Develops clinical, role-specific, orientation and competencies with subject matter experts.
  • Develops, oversees, and provides orientation for contracted, agency and school affiliation staff.
  • Participates in the development of facility-wide orientation and annual mandatory training.
  • Participates in the audit of all education and training files at a minimum of twice a year for regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in department committee, and other meetings to assist with staff education and training.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives related to clinical education and training.
  • Provides Just-in-Time training to clinical staff for challenging patient populations and/or high-risk procedures.
  • Provides clinical orientation, education, and training to all staff.
  • Provides workplace violence training (MANDT) and CPR training.
  • Provides clinical education and training content for electronic learning management systems (e.g., MassAchieve) to the Education and Training Leader.
  • Provides collaboration in the formation of relevant policies and procedures with hospital leadership.
  • Monitors and coordinates all clinical staff compliance for all mandatory training.
  • Maintains educational records and competencies for all staff in compliance with Education and Training Department procedures.
  • Schedules and arranges instruction on the use of new clinical equipment and products for all staff.
  • Promotes educational opportunities and schedules, including signage, postings on electronic communication boards, emails, and electronic learning system software.
