JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Position available immediately for a Research Technologist 1 in the Thomas laboratory of Eberly College of Science at The Pennsylvania State University that studies epithelial cell polarity in Drosophila. Projects in the laboratory will involve classical and transgenic genetics, molecular, cell and developmental biology. The successful applicant will perform laboratory research under the supervision of graduate researcher and the principle investigator. Experiments will include the following techniques: fly husbandry, bacterial growth and transformation, molecular biology (e.g. PCR, DNA preparation, Western blots etc.), tissue dissection and microscopy. General supervision of lab maintenance, dishwashing and autoclaving, preparation of stock solutions, and data management will be required. Participation in lab meetings is expected. Must work effectively in a team setting, be able to communicate well, and keep clear records. Specific skills that are necessary also include data management using common software programs.
Education and Experience
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The successful applicant must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work both semi-independently and collaboratively in a research team, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with team members and the PI.
