Job Description
Our company SSF has a position open for a High-Throughput Purification (HTP) Senior Scientist within the Discovery Chemistry Department located at our South San Francisco, CA site. The successful candidate will be highly independent and detail-oriented, with an analytical mindset and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. The candidate will be responsible for developing chromatographic methods and provide routine and specialized purification support and reporting for a range of modalities at varying scales, leveraging a variety of analytical techniques, novel instrumentation, and custom informatics tools. Specific responsibilities will include:
Job Responsibilities:
Be an integral part of our company's growing High-Throughput Purification team and work with chemists, biologists, and engineers to advance our drug discovery pipeline
Operate state of the art analytical and purification instrumentation (HPLC, UPLC, SFC, Hi-Res MS, 2D-LC) to characterize and purify lead candidates from small molecules to peptides and bioconjugates
Proactively develop specialty separations, and optimize related chromatographic methods for individual programs
Help identify, evaluate, and recommend novel instrumentation and workflows to achieve early-stage project goals
Collaborate with automation teams to design and implement machine learning software tools and robotics to automate laboratory workflows and processes
Oversee overall instrument performance and health, perform basic troubleshooting, and schedule preventative maintenance and repair with key vendors
Contribute to our external scientific presence through presentations and the writing of technical documents, scientific manuscripts, etc.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's (with 7+ years), Master's (with 4+ years) or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related field with relevant experience listed below
Required Experience and Skills:
Hands-on research experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech setting and familiarity with Waters, ThermoFisher, and/or Agilent LC-MS instrumentation, relevant software platforms, subsequent data analyses and interpretation
Demonstrated ability to independently develop and perform critical experiments in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Self-motivated with high attention to detail, ability to rapidly analyze, summarize and present data and significant conclusions
Excellent organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work on multiple projects
Uncompromising integrity and proven success working in a high-performing, diverse, and inclusive team environment
Ability to communicate clearly and build collaborative relationships is essential
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Data science and/or computer programming experience with knowledge of AI/ML software tools for predictive analytics to improve decision-making
Prior exposure to high-throughput lab operations, automation, and compound array purification
