About the role
The rooms preventative maintenance mechanic is responsible for executing the casino’s hotel room preventative maintenance program (PRP), as well as other general maintenance requests. The position requires excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail and a customer service-oriented approach to maintenance. The casino operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so operational demands require variations in shift days, starting times and hours worked in a week.
Qualifications:
- Must have advanced vocational training plus minimum of three years of experience in general building maintenance or construction.
- Knowledge of all maintenance trades including basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical (HVAC), carpentry, painting, wood refinishing, tile, carpet, wallpaper, tv and phone systems, safes, entry door locks, drapery repairs and hardware of furniture.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for operation and repair of hotel equipment.
- Must be able to recognize potential safety hazards and security problems in the hotel and act upon them accordingly.
- Be willing and able to comply with hotel policies and procedures including appearance and grooming, safety, security, key control and emergency procedures.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and repair routine mechanical and electrical malfunctions in hotel systems and equipment.
- Skills in use of basic hand and electric tools and familiarity with parts and material is required.
- Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities.
- Will be required to regularly use commercial chemicals for maintenance needs.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Must be able to get along well with co-workers and work as a team.
- Must be able to work any day of the week and any shift.
- Must present a well-groomed appearance.

Essential Job Functions:
- Performs preventative maintenance assignments on a schedule basis. (e.g., PRP). 1087 guestrooms (Full PM) 2x a year.
- Perform routine maintenance inspections of all guestrooms including hvac systems, plumbing, electrical, and other critical systems.
- Identify and address any maintenance issues or potential issues promptly (30 minutes or less) to prevent them from becoming larger problems that could impact the guest experience.
- Maintain and repair all guestroom furniture, fixtures, and equipment as needed, including cleaning and polishing of all surfaces and replacement of worn or damaged items.
- Work closely with housekeeping and front desk to coordinate maintenance activities and ensure that the guest experience is not impacted.
- Use software systems (Hotsos) and other tools to track and schedule maintenance activities and maintain accurate records of all work performed.
- Refurbish furniture and fixtures such as cabinets, tables, chairs, doors, windows, counters. Paint and finish furniture in guestrooms as needed.
- Follow procedures that ensure the security of inventory and assets of tools, supplies, equipment, furniture, televisions and any assets in guestrooms.
- Attend meetings and trainings as required by management.
- Perform any other duties as requested by management.
Physical, Mental & Environmental Demands:
- Must be capable of maneuvering for prolonged periods of time, both inside and outside sometimes in temperatures in excess of 115 degrees or cold temperatures below 10 degrees.
- Must possess coordination and dexterity to work with power and hand tools such as drills, electric saws, hammers, etc.
- Respond to visual and aural cues.
- Must be able to stoop, bend, jump, and carry heavy loads.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Able to maneuver on level surfaces, as well as up and down stairs.
- Must be able to think clearly and respond calmly in situations.
- Ability to stand during entire shift.
- Able to operate various types of maintenance equipment.
- Must be able to understand and follow directions, guidelines, and work objectives as set forth by the supervisor or manager.
- Must use common sense and integrity in ensuring security of guests’ belongings while working in guest rooms and suites.
