Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services.
Our purpose is to: Build Australia’s future economy. IB&M also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing global markets, trade finance, corporate and institutional lending to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with business and retail customers.

Global Institutional Banking Coverage (GIBC or Coverage) leads banking relationship management and the provision of transaction banking, risk management and capital solutions to our clients. The team’s purpose is to provide IB&M clients with solutions across the financing spectrum to support their strategic objectives. GIBC teams include: Institutional Client Coverage (ICC) – supporting our clients within Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFI) and Banks, Government & Education (BGOVE), Corporate Client Coverage (CCC) – supporting our clients within Industrials, Transport & Consumers (ITC) as well as Future Cities & Network (FCN) and Natural Resources, Energy & Carbon (NREC).
The New York based NREC team is focused on North American renewable energy and commodities clients supporting their financing needs in line with the IB&M purpose as they navigate the global shift to a low carbon economy. Project finance is a core product for our renewable energy customers.
Do work that matters:
As a Senior Associate / Associate Director working within the New York based NREC team you will play a direct role in client portfolio management activities for North America with a primary focus on project finance solutions for clients within the renewable energy sector. The role presents a great opportunity to take an important role within an established team covering a client base of leading renewable energy developers, corporates and investors as they contribute to the energy transition.
Your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Primary responsibility for portfolio management to include credit monitoring, review of client reporting and internal communication.
- Maintenance and broadening of client relationships.
- Working with internal stakeholders across Risk, Product and internal support functions to effectively deliver on reviews, consents, waivers and amendments in line with client requirements and working to tight deadlines as required.
- Leading portfolio refinancing transactions.
- Supporting origination activities including the completion of due diligence, modelling activities and preparation of credit papers
- Training and motivating more junior team members in line with business objectives, contributing to action planning to ensure effective team culture, taking ownership/accountability for team actions and delivering strong communication and composure, drive and commitment to meet tight deadlines.
- Adhere to the risk appetite of the Bank and ensure the team meets compliance, conduct, training and regulatory obligations.
- Contribute to business reviews, budgeting, audit, compliance and other special requests.
- Manage and implement controls supporting the control environment around NREC’s business.
We are interested in hearing from you if you have:
- Minimum 3-6 years experience in corporate or investment banking, within the natural resources and energy sectors, especially renewables and commodities. Understanding of the industry sectors and the key drivers affecting the industry. Portfolio management experience preferred
- Strong aptitude in financial modelling, together with strong research and analytical skills.
- Familiarity across product capabilities including corporate finance, debt capital markets, global markets and risk management, cash management and payments.
- Experience in engaging and building credibility and strong relationships and anticipating client requirements. A strong client centric mindset focused on understanding and meeting clients’ needs combined with strong interpersonal, collaboration and influencing skills.
- Track record of building and leveraging effective relationships across an organisation to deliver against financial and risk objectives.
- Understanding of control and the regulatory governance and framework.
- Aptitude in financial and risk analysis and financial modelling skills.
