About the role

Basic Function

Provides first level supervision and instruction to ITS technicians in the repair and maintenance of bus mobile radios, destination signs, IVOMS, wireless routers, and CCTV systems.  Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Provides primary managerial direction and performs personnel administrative functions of direct report staff (e.g., training, supervising, work assignments, timesheets, performance evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department outcomes are achieved.
  • Responsible for first level supervision of ITS Technicians.
  • Supports and instructs technician staff in the field repair of bus and non-revenue vehicle communications and sign equipment, IVOMS, wireless routers, and camera equipment.
  • Supervises maintenance of repair equipment, inspects tools and equipment condition and proper usage.
  • Monitor quality of work performed, overtime, and absenteeism.
  • Utilizes work order system and automated Depot server systems reports to monitor bus ITS equipment performance and perform trend analysis to determine possible equipment problems.
  • Coordinates the removal and installation of ITS equipment for retired and new revenue vehicles.
  • Assists General Foreman in the planning and scheduling of shifts, work assignments, training and vacation backfills.
  • Inspects equipment in need of repair, diagnose defects and assigns repair tasks.
  • Provides field maintenance, if required, of mobile electronic systems (buses, trucks, and cars).
  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.
  • Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

High school diploma or GED is required.  An Associate degree in Electronics Technology is required.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum five (5) years’ experience in radio communications field and shop maintenance; to include two (2) years lead/supervisory experience.

Knowledge & Skills Required

FCC general radiotelephone license or comparable industry certification is required.  Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records.  Working knowledge of personal computers and related software, Microsoft office.  Good communications (written/verbal) skills.
