Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Transmission Engineer to join our Automation team. This role involves a blend of product management, requirements gathering, QA/QC, and a strong emphasis on the technical aspects of various power system study processes. The candidate will work directly with the Automation Product Owner, and the Sr. Director of Software Platforms acting in the capacity of a Subject Matter Expert. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in electrical engineering or energy markets and a strong understanding of software development.

 

 

How you can make an impact:

Requirements Writing:

· Gather detailed information from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) related to the execution of various types of power system assessments, including but not limited to steady state analysis, transient stability analysis, short-circuit studies, and associated technical data.

· Translate this information into clear, software-development-ready requirements.

· Explore alternative mechanisms and reuse of data extracts to generate additional value-added analysis.

Quality Assurance (QA/QC):

· Review software releases for accuracy and proper functionality, ensuring technical data is correctly represented.

· Validate the accuracy of transmission study outputs, and comparability to existing processes.

Customer Support:

· Assist with consulting onboarding, providing technical support and guidance on using the automation process.

· Explain the relationship and value of standardized processes to engineering consultants to maximize the tool's potential.

Software Engineering

· Write scripts to automate integrations with power systems solvers.

· Modify existing scripts to conform to a large-scale automation framework.

Technical Demonstrations:

· Conduct detailed technical demonstrations to support new sales and new user training.

· Highlight the technical benefits and capabilities of the product, including its data reuse simplicity and analytical features.

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

· Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or energy markets.

· 2+ years experience working in the field of power systems engineering and energy markets analysis.

· Deep knowledge of the US transmission network and generation development in at least one US power market.

· Experience contributing to software engineering or workflow automation projects in the power industry.

· Experience working with software engineering tools including git, python, shell scripting.

· Experience performing power system assessments including steady state, short circuit, and transient stability.

· General knowledge of software development and GIS.

· Familiarity with databases and data management.

 

Preferred Skills:

· Experience with multiple power system solver technologies including PSSE, TARA, Synergi, DSA Tools, etc.

· Experience working with cloud technologies, especially AWS, to run solver or other automation processes.

· Experience with multiple power markets, ISOs, RTOs, or Transmission Companies, directly in physical grid planning.
