Description and Qualifications

The VP, Clinical Organ Operations works closely with the President & CEO, the Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel, the other VPs, Senior Directors, Directors and Managers throughout the service area. This position directly oversees Clinical Organ Donation Services (ODS), including the Referral and Organ Optimization and Surgical Recovery and Utilization departments. In conjunction with the CEO, the VP, Clinical Organ Operations works collaboratively with the Surgical Organ Recovery Specialists (SORS) and is accountable for integrating these functions to maximize donation and foster interdepartmental collaboration throughout LifeCenter Northwest (LifeCenter). In addition, this position serves as an integral member of the Executive Team and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) providing clinical leadership, analysis, and strategy development and oversight to drive improved donation outcomes.

 

In this role, the VP, Clinical Organ Operations is responsible for all matters overseeing the clinical organ donation process from initial referral through case completion including donor management, recovery and utilization of organs for transplantation, education, and research, and related matters such as donor data submission.  Responsible for planning and executing programs that maximize donation and transplantation, and that ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies and improve performance of organ donation services.  Works closely with Quality Department on performance improvement efforts. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Guides leadership of Clinical ODS teams by providing direction to accomplish organizational initiatives and individual department specific goals, aimed at increasing organ transplantation, and optimizing tissue recovery.
  • Oversees staffing and deployment of divisional resources to ensure appropriate staffing of all clinical donation teams to enable optimal donation outcomes.
  • Oversees the entire clinical ODS operations ensuring alignment of departmental resources and processes. Serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team as a mentor and support for other leaders in the organization.
  • Along with the Executive Leadership Team, provides direction to implement new initiatives in clinical ODS.
  • Develops the budget for areas of responsibility and is accountable for meeting the revenue and expense targets, including explanations of any major variances.
  • Provides oversight of  donation activity throughout LifeCenter’s Donation Service Area (DSA). 
  • Supports and leads clinical ODS leadership in promoting a team environment and culture to support integrated approaches organization wide to achieve goals.
  • Represents LifeCenter both internally and externally in a leadership capacity.
  • Participates in both Advisory Board and Governing Board meetings with a primary focus on clinical organ donation performance.
  • Promotes the mission and strategic goals of LifeCenter by participating in associations and programs aimed at maximizing organ and tissue recovery and transplantation.
  • Actively fosters collaborative relationships with key hospitals, transplant, and other organ procurement organization (OPO) staff members to ensure effective communication and workflow throughout the organ donation process.
  • Maintains knowledge of all current associations and regulatory agencies, including but not limited to: Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO), Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN), United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Fosters an organizational culture based on collaboration, transparency, support, and feedback.
