Job Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located in Golden, Colorado, is looking for an individual with knowledge in theory, modeling, and experimental evaluations of dehumidification and thermal energy storage materials and systems impacting flexibility in energy generation, management, and demand.

The successful candidate shall be able to execute the following activities as they are required for this position:

  • Modeling and simulation of liquid and solid desiccant dehumidification technologies and energy storage materials for HVAC&R systems.
  • Conduct experimental evaluations on dehumidification and energy storage systems.
  • Measurement of thermophysical properties.
  • Conduct thermodynamics and kinetics theoretical evaluations of thermal energy storage materials.
  • Molecular dynamics (MD) and density functional theory (DFT) modeling to study phase transitions, coupling-decoupling mechanism affecting thermal interfacial conductance, and thermal conductivity.
  • Nanoscale thermal transport theory.
  • Heat and mass transfer theory for energy storage materials.
  • Help develop strategies for research and development of emerging thermal energy technologies.
  • Identify current activities, gaps, opportunities, and goals, along with how research in energy generation and energy demand (e.g., Buildings) could benefit from energy storage technologies.

Basic Qualifications

Relevant PhD . Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience . Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience . Demonstrates complete understanding and wide application of scientific technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Very good technical writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
