Summary:
The Center for Leadership & Community Engagement (CLCE) is AU’s hub for engaging with the DMV through community outreach and civic action. We are seeking an organized, self-motivated, and passionate student to assist in coordinating programs that recognize and empower students involved in Community-Based work. Primarily, this role helps coordinate the Eagle Endowment for Public & Community Service. The Eagle Endowment differs from AU’s Endowment. It’s a unique program with a rich history. Founded in the aftermath of 9/11 by students, it became the first student-led Endowment in the USA! Recently, the Eagle Endowment won a grant competition and the title of “top college philanthropic organization in the USA”. The Eagle Endowment gives AU Students/Clubs grants of up to $1,000 (along with a year of mentorship) to make a lasting difference through social action projects. Since 2002, it’s responsible for over 120 projects, many of which are still creating positive impacts years later. Projects are rooted in Community-Based Research theory and applications involve a Needs Assessment and local partnerships to ensure that projects fulfil the intended impact. With direction from CLCE and the Assistant Director of Community-Based Learning, this position will manage the Eagle Endowment, including its funds, Advisory Council, projects, visibility, and impact reports. The ideal fit is a dedicated student who wants to build their leadership skills for multiple semesters by operating, in essence, a “foundation” that cultivates innovative and impactful projects from AU students. This year, the position will focus on capacity building. This includes recruiting and leading a committed Advisory Council of students, managing a ~$10k budget, and creating the foundation for a 25-year Anniversary Event along with a Greek Life Subgrants collaboration. They will work closely with a past Eagle Endowment Coordinator and a Co-Coordinator to set the vision and learn the ropes. Ideal candidates would be in this role for at least 2 years to build continuity.
Responsibilities:
Conduct daily operations, lead Advisory Council, execute grant cycles, oversee website and social media, manage budget and timeline for key initiatives.
Create annual reports showcasing projects and be the public face of the Eagle Endowment at conferences, meetings, class presentations, alumni events, etc.
Create partnerships to advance fundraising, resources for projects, and engagement with the Eagle Endowment grants and Council.
Review grant applications, conduct interviews with applicants, and ensure grant recipients execute meaningful projects with integrity.
