Compensation: $30 - $43 per hour, based on relevant experience

JOB SUMMARY: The Desert Tortoise Biology Lead will manage desert tortoise biology projects, combining field and office work while applying technical expertise. The role requires strong writing skills, leadership, and a commitment to developing a long-term consulting career in environmental biology.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:
Conduct special status plant and wildlife surveys, including desert tortoise and nesting bird surveys
Perform habitat assessments and construction compliance monitoring
Conduct noxious weed surveys, agricultural insect pest surveys, and raven point count surveys
Assist in managing a field office, ensuring efficient operations and coordination
Develop and manage Survey 123 tools and GIS data for project documentation and analysis
Provide leadership and supervision for field teams, ensuring high-quality survey execution
Ensure compliance with relevant permit requirements for biological surveys and monitoring
Demonstrate strong writing skills for report preparation, proposals, and documentation
Commit to developing a long-term consulting career in environmental biology and project management
Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group’s culture of safety and employee ownership
Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Mojave Desert Tortoise Biologist Authorized by USFWS and CDFW
Degree in biology, natural resource management, environmental studies or similar
Ability to work long hours in potentially extreme weather conditions
Competence using global positioning system units, maps, ipads, and submeter accuracy devices
The ability to operate a four-wheel drive vehicle over rough terrain
The ability to perform work duties independently or as part of a team
Clear communicator, highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, and dependable
A working knowledge of standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)
Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with both insect and plant agricultural pest identification and management
