Job Type: Full-Time, Regular

Compensation: $30 - $43 per hour, based on relevant experience

JOB SUMMARY:  The Desert Tortoise Biology Lead will manage desert tortoise biology projects, combining field and office work while applying technical expertise. The role requires strong writing skills, leadership, and a commitment to developing a long-term consulting career in environmental biology.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:

  • Conduct special status plant and wildlife surveys, including desert tortoise and nesting bird surveys

  • Perform habitat assessments and construction compliance monitoring

  • Conduct noxious weed surveys, agricultural insect pest surveys, and raven point count surveys

  • Assist in managing a field office, ensuring efficient operations and coordination

  • Develop and manage Survey 123 tools and GIS data for project documentation and analysis

  • Provide leadership and supervision for field teams, ensuring high-quality survey execution

  • Ensure compliance with relevant permit requirements for biological surveys and monitoring

  • Demonstrate strong writing skills for report preparation, proposals, and documentation

  • Commit to developing a long-term consulting career in environmental biology and project management

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings

  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group’s culture of safety and employee ownership

  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mojave Desert Tortoise Biologist Authorized by USFWS and CDFW

  • Degree in biology, natural resource management, environmental studies or similar

  • Ability to work long hours in potentially extreme weather conditions

  • Competence using global positioning system units, maps, ipads, and submeter accuracy devices

  • The ability to operate a four-wheel drive vehicle over rough terrain

  • The ability to perform work duties independently or as part of a team

  • Clear communicator, highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, and dependable

  • A working knowledge of standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)

  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with both insect and plant agricultural pest identification and management

  • CDFW Aut
