GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

Direct the operational and personnel functions of the Medical Staff Services Department.  Maintains contact and updates information on medical staff credentialing standards and requirements.  Audits credential files to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards.  Reports medical staff activities to various Medical Staff meetings.  Also responsible for Continuing Medical Education program preparation and coordination.

  • Plan and implement activities of the medical staff department
  • Plan and direct the operational activities of the department .
  • Develop, implement, and administer departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain relationships with medical staff members, department/committee chairmen, and medical staff officers.
  • Maintain relationships with department managers to advise on activities pertaining to medical staff functions.

  • Perform personnel management activities including hiring, performance evaluation, salary adjustment recommendations, counseling and termination.
  • Develop budget recommendations, administer operating budget and approve financial expenditures.
  • Re-evaluate Medical Staff Bylaws and make recommendations for changes.
  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Plan and implement activities of the medical staff quality assessment program.
  • Plan and direct the operational activities of the department.
  • Develop, implement, and administer departmental policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively administers performance management system including: developmental feedback, goal setting, assesses competency, progressive discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of and effective in administering hospital policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for sound management of human resources.
  • Makes and implements decision compatible with organizational goals.
  • Maintains composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under pressure.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
