About the Internship nLIGHT is currently recruiting for an Engineering student to intern with us for the summer of 2025. This internship is a 10 to 12-week program that offers challenging assignments, projects, and career development opportunities to enhance your professional growth. You will also earn a competitive wage based on your discipline and academic class status. About the Team The Sensing team designs and manufactures pulsed fiber lasers for defense applications. We are a small group of optical, electrical, and mechanical engineers working in this exciting new product area at nLIGHT. What You Can Expect to Learn
Compensation and Benefits
Pay depends on level of education completed:
- SolidWorks CAD modelling and design documentation by creating detailed mechanical drawings.
- Design for cost, assembly and manufacturing (DFX)
- FDM 3D printing to create parts and assemblies of your own design
- Working with a cross-functional team to accomplish challenging design and manufacturing goals.
- Assist in designing, procuring and assembling station and build tooling items for production
- Import new product designs into our Product Data Management system. Update designs to meet Design for Manufacturing and Assembly standards and create and modify CAD models and drawings
- Assist with qualification testing for new designs
- Finite Element Analysis, time permitting
- You bring knowledge of Mechanical Fundamentals
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- You take initiative and have an eagerness to learn
- You possess strong CAD skills and experience using SolidWorks is a plus
- You must be working toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering
- You must have completed (at a minimum) your sophomore year in college
- You must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above to be considered
Compensation and Benefits
Pay depends on level of education completed:
- $26 - 28/hr
- Medical, Dental and Vision Benefits including Prescription and Orthodontia with employee-paid premiums as low as $40.00 per pay period
