The PCA functions as a member of the Patient Care Team under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse and is responsible for giving and documenting direct patient care, assisting patients to complete activities of daily living (ADL’S), promoting patient mobility and assuring patient and workplace safety.

Job Description

• Provides and documents direct patient care.
• Obtains and documents vital signs, weights, whole blood glucose and intake and output.
• Collects specimens such as urine, sputum, and stool. May transport specimens.
• Assists patients with feeding, bathing, mouth care and skin care.
• Assists patients with elimination needs, such as bedpans, commodes and urinals. Assists with ostomy care. Applies condom catheters.
• Assists patients with mobility needs such as transfers, ambulation, positioning and alignment; splints and anti- embolism stockings and active and passive range of motion exercises. Uses assistive devices such as walkers and various lifting devices when needed.
• Assists with specific safety needs in restraint, seizure and Code 10 situations. Acts as an Activity Companion when needed.
• Assists with admission, discharge and transfer of patients and post mortem care.
• Performs CPR and maintains BLS certification.
• May perform venipuncture to obtain blood for lab testing

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• 6 months related experience in a health care setting or completion of certified nurse assistant course and/or experience as a paramedic, emergency technician is desired
• Honest, punctual, and performs the job in adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by AMC and the tenets of the profession.
• Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, family members, employees and others.

Hourly Range: $19-$23
