About the role

We are looking for a talented School to Work – Test Engineer student to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Troy, MI.

For a DAPCEP School To Work candidate to work in the Product Validation Lab Team, it would be desirable for the individual to have an interest in mechanical systems such as automotive vehicles and/or automotive components.  In addition, having a functional knowledge of Microsoft office computer software systems is beneficial.  The candidate is self-motivated, can follow instructions and can complete routine assignments with limited supervision and should have reasonable written and verbal communication skills.

The DAPCEP School To Work candidate’s function would be to work with one of the Test Engineers to shadow them and learn about how particular automotive components function and how they are tested.  They would participate in kick-off meetings for new test requests to see how the interaction goes between product engineering, product validation testing and program management.  Eventually, the candidate would be trained to a level to where they would be able to program and set up the controller, tune a PID loop, create an MPT program for the test loading parameters, define and enable load and displacement limits, and verify physical setup parameters.  Once the test begins, the candidate would monitor the test progress and would provide a daily update, via e-mail, to our internal customers as well as acting as an interface between the product validation team and product engineering.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with one of the Test Engineers to shadow them and learn about how particular automotive components function, how they are tested, and learn the test controller functions and operation.
