Description

CLOSING DATE: July 18th, 2025 

POSITION: Archeology Technician Sr. (Seasonal)

SALARY: $23.63 - $27.39, per hour DOE

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

LOCATION: History and Archeology (museum), Coulee Dam, WA 

 

Basic Functions: Non-Exempt. Performs cultural resources work focusing on archaeology, traditional cultural properties (TCP), collections, cultural plants, and museum – as assigned. The job functions will vary between general office work to assisting senior staff and working independently. 

Position is contract funded-no guarantee of continued employment should funding cease.  

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: 

  • Requires a High School Diploma and three years’ experience or a degree demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position in Anthropology, Native American Studies, Botany/Plant Ecology, or Museology/Collection Management.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Pack and haul archaeological, oral history, botanical, or curation equipment.
  • Bag and label archaeological, oral history, botanical, or curation materials.
  • Prepare archaeological, oral history, botanical, or curation forms.
  • Requires to maintain records for archaeology, oral history, native plants, or curation.
  • Requires data entry for archaeology, oral history, botany specimens, or curation materials.
  • Requires to proficiently use camera for documentation purposes
  • Requires to assist with archaeological site excavation, assist elders during interviews, oral history interviews, audio/visual recording, plant surveys, or curation and museum activities.
  • Requires to research documents, archives, collections, or artifacts.
  • Requires to assist with collection and processing tasks.
  • Requires to assist with technical report composition and map production.
  • Requires to copy records and documents.
  • Requires to assist office staff with general duties as assigned.
  • Requires knowledge of CCT history, culture, legends, and traditions of the 12 constituent tribes. 
  • Requires knowledge of local area.
  • Requires the knowledge of equipment such as: fax, copier, scanner, digital video-recorder, GPS, etc.  
  • Requires knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Programs-Word, Access, Excel and a working knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment, including filing systems, receptionist and telephone techniques, and letter and report writing.
  • Requires sufficient data entry skills.   Requires sufficient arithmetic skills to compute sums and statistics. Requires sufficient skill using the English language, grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofreading/editing, to prepare standardized correspondence. 
  • Requires sufficient human relations skills to present a positive image of Tribe, convey technical information to others, and use patience in dealing with a diverse population.
  • Requires the ability to perform all of the duties of the position in a high volume environment that may be dominated by distractions.
