We are looking for passionate and highly motivated individuals to work on a NASA funded project in the Blanchard laboratory at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai.
The researchers will work closely with lab members to create iPSCs-derived vasculature and 3D models of the human brain and apply these tools to investigate mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease and neurodegeneration. The successful candidate will be responsible for culturing cell lines, microscopic analysis, performing, designing, and maintaining experiments, and analyzing data.

Duties are divided among all researchers (postdocs, graduate students, technical associates) and will include, creating specialized media formulation and maintaining an inventory of stem cell reagents and stock chemicals; preparing specialized culturing surfaces and maintaining a well-organized inventory of cell lines stored in liquid nitrogen. Will work under the direct supervision of the lab director and post-docs. Performs other related duties.
The position would be ideal for a recent college graduate or master’s student looking for an immersive research experience for 2-3 years prior to applying to graduate school. This is a unique opportunity to work in the field of human stem cell biology and develop cutting-edge technology to understand and treat neurodegeneration.
- Bachelors degree in science or related field preferred, or combination of relevant research experience and education. A recent graduate with demonstrated experience in any of the following fields: cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, and developmental/stem cell biology, bioengineering.
- 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience
- The ideal candidates will have experience in the following research areas: iPSC cell culture and differentiation; molecular and cell biology; CRISPR, bioengineering, confocal microscopy; calcium imaging and optogenetics; mouse models; computational biology, single cell/nuclei RNAseq.
