The Orthopedic Clinical Coordinator will report to the Practice Manager to primarily guide joint replacement patients through the process of surgery and recovery, beginning at the time of scheduling and continuing through the 6-week post-operative office visit. This includes patient education, multi-disciplinary coordination of care, developing and updating outpatient care protocols, and tracking patient outcomes.

Additionally, the Orthopedic Clinical Coordinator will be responsible for phone triage and patient clinic, including but not limited to chart prep, prescription management, injection prior authorizations, and other duties as assigned.

Pay Range:  $26.89 - $41.95/hour

Employment Type:  Full Time, 72 hours every 2 weeks

Schedule:  Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Friday 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Requirements:  Graduate of accredited Registered Nursing Program required, Current Michigan RN License required, Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider (or completed within 60 days of hire) required

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE:

  • Promotes patient safety by maintaining the policies and procedures of the physician office
  • Achieves office-specific initial and ongoing competencies.
  • Maintains the ANA Standards of Professional Performance including:
  • Participates and is mindful of the quality initiatives of physician practice.
  • Maintains nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues.
  • Works with physician and family in rending medical care.
  • Coordinates patient care involving other members of the health care team in relation to Patient Centered Medical Home as appropriate.
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the planning and delivery of nursing service.

DIRECT PATIENT CARE:

  • Develops and initiates nursing regimens, for example: applying infection control measures; assessing and managing wounds; applying heating and cooling devises.
  • Implements patient management plans as devised and directed by a physician.
  • Administers medications as directed by a supervising health professional including IV administered medications.
  • Performs non-invasive physical exams in-person and over-the-phone following physician approved protocols.

DOCUMENTATION:

  • Documents patient information in the medical record.
  • Assists with maintaining patient medication logs, completes prescription files and communication logs.
  • Assists the physicians with the chart closing process.
  • Files records in accessible, confidential, and secure system.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:

  • Supports the quality improvement activities of the facility and responds appropriately to change.
  • Participates in learning or teaching experiences as appropriate
  • Requests supervision when needed and utilizes supervision effectively.
  • Ensures compliance with policy, procedure and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient rights, confidentiality.
  • If applicable, ensures appropriate documentation for billing, maintaining ethical billing practices.
  • Identifies communication needs of significant referral sources and assures that they receive information in a timely manner.

The Orthopedic Clinical Coordinator, RN is expected to perform the essential functions of the RN Physician Office (listed above), in addition to the following:

SURGICAL COORDINATOR, EDUCATION, AND PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATION:

  • Creating and facilitating education for pre-operative and post-operative patients.
  • Coordinating specialty surgical clearance
  • Conducting preliminary assessments of procedural surgical clearance.
  • Identifying developmental opportunities and providing education to clinical staff for ongoing and annual competencies.
  • Completing insurance prior authorizations and appeals for therapeutic injections and procedures.
  • Serving as an active participant with the Michigan Arthroplasty Registry Collaborative Quality Initiative (MARCQI).

Patient Navigation

  • Assists patients in understanding their diagnosis, course of treatment and hospital routines across the continuum of care.
