About the role

Job Description

The Lead Maintenance Technician position will supervise and work actively in a dynamic production dedicated maintenance team supporting the Plant Maintenance and Production departments.  The Lead will focus on installation, modification, troubleshooting, removal, and repair of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical components of critical production equipment.  Critical systems that are in scope for the Lead’s team will include, but not be limited to Bosch/Syntegon sterile filling lines, Cozzoli Sterile filling lines, West/Genessis capping lines, Brenton robotic packaging lines, Weiler labeling systems and Blending tanks.  The Lead will be seen as the driver of safety and compliance for activities on and around their scopes of service.  As an expert to their scopes of work, the Lead will serve as Sub-System Owner (SSO) for important Safety and Quality Compliance scopes of control.  The Lead will provide periodic afterhours phone or on-site support in the event of breakdown or scheduled maintenance needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop, conduct, record, and close out preventative maintenance functions.  

  • Orient and train team members.  Provide corrective feedback to improve team member performance and accept recommendations to drive continued improvement within the team and on equipment.

  • Share Safety SSO responsibility with Engineering for Machine Guarding and Machine Safety program execution.

  • Share Safety SSO responsibility with Plant Maintenance for Lockout Tagout program execution.

  • Share Quality SSO responsibility with Plant Maintenance for Change Control program execution.

  • Provide in person or remote support during afterhours breakdown/production stop conditions.

  • Audit PMs and task lists, giving feedback on improvement ideas and ensuring all asset Bill of Materials parts lists are accurate and stocked in the parts management warehouse.

  • Ensure all information is entered into SAP to track utilization and on all work order activity is recorded and completed during shift.

  • Coordinate and prioritize assigned daily workload for self and team with production line management and plant management resources.

  • Attend Plant Maintenance and Production Tier Meetings.

  • Escalate issues with critical equipment, and support corrective/predictive/preventive measures to minimize risk of failure and loss.

  • Document all repairs (temporary or permanent) in the SAP PM Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).  Escalate issues that cannot be resolved at the shop floor level. 

  • Support team with positive motivation and team engagement.

  • Suggest, plan, and execute continuous improvement initiatives to achieve zero losses due to equipment failures and technical issues.

  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) exercises on equipment and process failures to determine failure modes and Corrective Action/Preventive Action (CAPA) plans to eliminate failure from the operation.

  • Communicate effectively with the Maintenance Planner, IPT Maintenance Team, Plant Maintenance colleagues, and Production Customers to develop and plan and execute seamless Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Response actions. 

  • Implement and propagate detailed pass down communication tools across a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week shift schedule where knowledge transfer is critical to team success.

  • Work individually or with teams on equipment maintenance activities on systems that include robotics, 3-axis servo control, mechanical timing, pick and place, serialization, high speed placement, trunnion labeling, sterilization/depyrogenation ovens, cap crimping, stopper placement, palletizing, card placement, and a range of state-of-the-art as well as late model equipment.

  • Review and work under the requirements of Safety Plan of Action (SPA) and High-Risk Work Permits.

  • Conduct other duties as assigned.

 

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma with 10 years' experience or equivalent OR

  • Associate degree in Technical discipline such as Industrial Maintenance Technology with 5 years' experience

 

Experience and Skills

Required

  • Ability to demonstrate a fundamental comprehension of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and mechanical drawings to solve problems in a timely manner at the component level on all manufacturing equipment.

  • Minimum documented record of at least 4,000 hours of electrical related job experience and 72 hours of formal instruction on electrical safety, electrical systems, electronics.  Instruction may
