The role
SoFi is searching for a Senior Accountant with financial services experience to support the deposits, invest, and commercial payments services accounting functions. The right person will thrive with the eagerness to learn, use an innovative approach to solving problems, and be willing to contribute to improving our end-to-end accounting processes.
What you’ll do:
- Prepare and assist with various weekly regulatory reporting requirements such as the FR2900 report, the daily Federal Reserve bank account reconciliation, and the weekly Broker Dealer 15c3-3 Customer Reserve Calculation.
- Lead project management related to month-end closing procedures and quarterly reporting for the deposits, invest, and commercial payments services products
- Identify issues and work cross-functionally to implement solutions
- Perform analytical reviews of the Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts to validate completeness, accuracy and period drivers
- Perform data validation work, identifying issues and potential solutions, raising them in a timely manner to management where needed, independently solving issues commensurate with experience
- Maintain well documented, audit-ready monthly and quarterly support files for all journal entries, SEC and federal bank reporting schedules.
- Develop policies and procedures (SOPs), including control documentation in accordance with SOX and AICPA standards
- Review detailed account reconciliations, regulatory schedules, journal entries and supporting documentation to ensure error free reporting process
- Analyze accounts, subsidiary ledgers, and other accounting documents for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to accounting guidance and management policies
- Support staff in the preparation of complete and easy to follow workpapers for month end close and reporting purposes
- Provide detailed, level appropriate coaching to accounting staff and interns, as needed
- Review and challenge intercompany expenses in accordance with GAAP and Regulation W
- Identify areas of improvement within the department for efficiency or risk control enhancements and aid in implementing solutions
- Produce analyses to support other business functions in management decision making
- Support any additional ad hoc projects and system implementation testing
- Assist with the quarterly reviews and year-end annual audit
What you’ll need:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in a professional, fast-moving environment
- A strong background in banking or financial services institution accounting, including regulatory reporting research, technical accounting research, and working with large data sets using Excel and other tools
- Must be able to independently identify, investigate, and resolve issues in accordance with established accounting policies, collaborating with management where needed.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- Experience working with financial and/or regulatory reporting in a public company
- Ability to function in a highly collaborative, remote environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must demonstrate attention to detail, analytical abilities and consistent follow-through, including project management skills
- Ability to partner with cross-functional teams, including product engineering, legal, enterprise risk management, compliance, treasury and finance
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
Nice to have:
- Experience with Netsuite and/or Workday, similar ERP
- Experience with tableau, SQL, or alteryx
- Experience with Kyriba, Profile
- Experience with broker dealer accounting and retail investments
- Experience with deposit product accounting
- CPA designation preferred
