University of Virginia Medical Center is currently recruiting for a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Division of Musculoskeletal (MSK) Imaging and Intervention in the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging. The UVA MSK Imaging Division uses the latest in imaging technology to perform a full range of image interpretation and image-guided interventional procedures related to bones, joints, and extremity soft tissues. The MSK APP will be located primarily at the UVA Health Orthopedic Center Ivy Road in Charlottesville, Virginia. As part of a healthcare team, the MSK APP will provide services within the scope of licensing, training, and credentialing. The primary responsibility of the APP will be performing image-guided needle-based percutaneous interventions in the musculoskeletal system. On the job training is available from the division faculty to develop the appropriate skills.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
• The primary responsibility is to perform and issue reports for fluoroscopy-guided injections in the extremities, either as a precursor to MR arthrography or for pain management purposes. Commonly injected joints include shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, hip, knee, and foot/ankle.
• As determined by the needs of the division and demonstrated competency, additional procedures done by the MSK division may be performed by the APP as well. These include fluoroscopy-guided spine injections, ultrasound guided injections/aspirations in the extremities, CT guided bone marrow biopsies, and CT/ US guided lesion biopsies.
• Work in conjunction with the medical director, administrative management, nursing, and other interprofessional team members to facilitate patient care and management throughout the health care system.
• May participate in the clinical experience of students (graduate/post graduate advanced practice, nursing, and medical students), interns, residents, and fellows as appropriate.• Exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures commensurate with training and experience, as credentialed by UVA Health System.
• Performs and documents comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, to include initiation of CPR or other appropriate emergency therapy as needed.
• Performs procedures within scope of practice and UVA Health System credentialing and privileges.• Order medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with Virginia Prescriptive regulations.
• Evaluate and analyze patient responses to disease and therapeutic interventions.
• Provide information, education and support to patients/families regarding disease processes and treatment plans, thus facilitating communication between patients/families and the health care team.
• Manage patients in accordance with established UVA Medical Center and UVA UPG policies and procedures.
• Report outbreaks of communicable diseases and other information critical to the patient’s and/or the public’s health as required by legal or governmental authorities,in a timely manner.• Meets quality standards as determined by the Medical Director and/or UVA Health System.• Prepares and attends to all reports, claims, and correspondence necessary or appropriate to the performance of professional services.
• Promote the professional practice of the advanced practice group by serving as a clinical resource to other health care practitioners.
• Follow policies and procedures, including those of UPG, UVA Medical Center, CMS and other contracted payers with which the entity may contract.
Clinical:
• Independently and in collaboration with physician(s) and interdisciplinary team members, provides comprehensive clinical and organizational direction and leadership to the healthcare provider team in the care of patients.
• Performs comprehensive history and physical assessment
• Documents findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings
• Orders and interprets the appropriate diagnostic labs and tests
• Forms medical diagnoses based on history, assessment and diagnostic findings
• Develops, implements and evaluates treatment plans
• Prescribes and recommends pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions
• Initiates appropriate specialty consultations referrals when requisite
• Initiates and evaluates clinical pathways and protocols
• Collaborates with Attendings and/or Fellows regarding admissions and community transfers
• Facilitates the timely flow of patients via collaboration with interdisciplinary team members and supports all interdisciplinary relationships
• Recognizes acute/emergent situations requiring immediate responsiveness and initiates life-saving interventions, alerting the interdisciplinary team members for assistance
