Hybrid

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

As a Tooling and Equipment Installation Engineer, you will be responsible for developing the statement of requirements and managing the installation of process equipment in various GM Manufacturing Centers around the world.  You will be responsible for Installation Execution activities in General Assembly where you will interface with Body and Paint Execution and Installation teams.
 

Creativity and initiative along with a passion for managing construction projects are key characteristics of this position. Installation Suppliers will work directly for you. You will be directly responsible for all aspects of their work, including site safety, installation schedule, and project cost. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Generates technical solutions for current, new and major vehicle programs.

  • Provides technical input and leadership for the Supplier.

  • Develop engineering designs (including subsystems)

  • Develops Installation SOR (Statement of Requirements)

  • Solves engineering related problems and manages implementation.

  • Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs.

  • Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations.

  • Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such Sustainable facilities, IE, Conveyor Engineering, Material, and Plant engineering.

  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive construction techniques.

  • Manages all aspects of the project execution including estimating, safety and scheduling.

  • Supports debug and validation for vehicle launch.

Location: Warren, MI - However, travel may be required.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Education, training or experience in one of the areas of construction management, safety management, tooling installation, equipment construction, integration of conveyor equipment, facility maintenance, or manufacturing production engineering.

  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills.

  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Project and MS Office

  • Ability to use AutoCAD.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)​ 

  • Applicable Journeyperson’s Card with Superintendent Experience

  • Technical Degree in Construction Management or equivalent experience

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience

  • GM will consider both recent college graduates with the desire to learn and develop the skills to become successful in manufacturing and those with experience in the construction management or manufacturing engineering field.

  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.

  • Specific knowledge of the union construction industry

  • Knowledge or experience in any of the following: Press Shops, Body Shop, General Assembly, Paint Processes and/or Global Propulsion systems

  • Knowledge of controls automation and robotic systems
