The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
This requisition is for a Functional Lead - Cranes, Doors, Platforms, Elevators, and Logistic Equipment. This position resides within the Ground Systems Support Operations and Maintenance organization at Kennedy Space Center, providing leadership to a high performing team that reliably maintains and operates numerous assets in support of Exploration Ground Systems, International Space Station, and Launch Services Processing. Responsibilities include the following:
- Provide leadership and clear direction to a team of technicians by establishing solid goals and expectations.
- Build strong relationships based on trust, integrity, and keeping commitments.
- Proactively identify opportunities to provide recognition and constructive feedback to employees.
- Conduct morning tailgate meetings to include safety briefings.
- Assign technicians to work crews for daily scheduled tasks.
- Work closely with planners, schedulers, area integrators and flow management ensuring diligent planning to optimize resources and maximize productivity.
- Participate in weekly scheduling meetings with shop scheduler.
- Forecast overtime labor.
- Maintain persistent communication and coordination with customers.
- Ensure work is performed safely per established Health, Safety and Environmental Procedures (HSEPs), Operating Procedures (OPs), and work authorization documents (WADs).
- Ensure timely and thorough incident response, reporting and corrective actions.
- Engage in the field including participation in pre-task briefings, review of work orders and safe plans of action; assessment of personal protective equipment and authoring behavioral safety observation reports.
- Review operating procedures and health, safety and environmental procedures as required.
- Monitor department certifications for technicians to include required training, and supporting the development of new certifications as required.
- Work to develop and recognize strong performance within in the department and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Facilitate meetings between engineering, technicians, work control, and customers as required.
Here's What You'll Need:
Qualifications – External
High school diploma or equivalent; 15 years related experience.
