Department Overview

The Humboldt Bay Site Services Department oversees the site security requirements for maintaining and protecting the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) during interim storage for the Department of Energy until a long-term storage solution is provided by the federal government.

 

Position Summary

These are regular full-time positions and are a Service Employees International Union (SEIU) -represented classification currently subject to a collective bargaining agreement.

 

Perform all daily activities associated with the ISFSI (Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation) site and associated properties, including operations and surveillances, emergency response, and security duties. Protect PG&E Humboldt Bay’s ISFSI and property from theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and other acts that may adversely impact the health and safety of PG&E employees and/or the public. Maintain Unescorted Access Authorization.  Participate in drills, exercises, and training programs. Assignments cover a 24/7 operation including mandatory overtime. Interact with various PG&E coworkers to respond to service calls and to furnish and/or obtain information on general matters. Each individual is responsible to maintain all required training and qualifications assigned.

Under the terms of the PG&E/SEIU collective bargaining agreement, the starting hourly rate range for this position is $41.10 and the top of the range is $52.46. Hourly rates, progression through the range and any other increases are subject to collective bargaining. The successful candidate hired into this role will be placed at the collectively bargained starting hourly rate for this position.

 

 

Responsibilities:

1. Performs overall operation of the primary and/or secondary alarm stations during routine, emergency, and contingency activities. Monitors CCTV, plant surveillance equipment and alarm systems. Deters criminal activity, misconduct, and safety violation.
2. Works with other coworkers to test intrusion detection systems and to confirm proper functioning, including surveillance and equipment tests and inspections.  
3. Escorts and observes individuals and property to protect against thefts, irregularities, and unauthorized entry.
4. Performs foot patrols to ensure fences, doors, gates, structures, and buildings are secure, observes and reports suspicious activity, and provides visual deterrence.
5. Verifies/identity and authorization of all visitors.
6. Performs searches of coworkers, hand carried items, vehicles and materials.
7. Performs security assignments to complement the Site Security Plan, Emergency Plan, and Safeguards Contingency Plan during routine, contingency and emergency situations.
8. Assumes role of the Security Coordinator (SC) and/or Emergency Coordinator (EC) during drills, exercises, and off-normal events.
9. Receives initial emergency reports from other station coworkers or outside individual/agency and directs the response of other ISFSI coworkers. Makes initial telephone and radio calls for outside assistance (e.g. sheriff, ambulance and local law). Coordinates security and emergency conditions and or events including reporting to local, state and federal agencies. Ensures that security policies and procedures are referenced and followed for off-normal events.
