The Senior Portfolio Planning Manager is a leader in the Radiation Treatment Solutions (RTS) organization responsible for developing and driving investment strategies to optimize business outcomes for the services organization. The Portfolio Planning Manager is responsible for maintaining and guiding the portfolio of investments in the domain and ensuring consistent engagement of stakeholders across a complex global organization. The investment strategy is captured in the form of a roadmap and backed up by supporting information that justifies the decisions. He/she recognizes and analyses complex portfolio problems and either resolves them or drives resolution with the team of senior leaders.
Measurement of Success:
Decision quality is high and the rationale behind decisions is transparent; investments are optimized for the overall portfolio mix. The portfolio plan is balanced between longer term investments that enable future profitability and short- mid-term investments that meet our immediate financial needs. Intake, prioritization, and governance process is understood by stakeholders; RACI is clear. The roadmap is linked to RTS mission and strategy. The portfolio plan is current and accessible, and the product roadmap has a single source of truth and can be easily accessed and understood. Changes are communicated to impacted stakeholders on a predictable cadence. Prioritization is clear and ideas approved for funding are feasible. Risks and dependencies are proactively managed.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains a set of frameworks and governance processes to guide the investment portfolio for RTS; partners with stakeholders to ensure these tools are accessible and user-friendly and ensures adherence to the set guidelines. The frameworks are intended to guide:
- Portfolio investment decision making
- Portfolio risk and dependency management
- Manages the portfolio of investments, drives the development of business cases, collaborates with business stakeholders to set priorities, monitors project execution, and maintains transparency of activities related to the roadmap plan. Ensures roadmap items are linked to portfolio objectives and are backed up by a business justification such as a business case.
- Develops short and long-term roadmap plans; continually adjusts the roadmap to reflect changes in the investment strategy and/or the operating environment. Ensures transparency about decisions related to the portfolio investment strategy and informs stakeholders about changes and decisions.
- Liaises with product management, marketing, and R&D leaders to ensure balanced decision making. Involves cross functional stakeholders outside the RTS organization as needed to ensure comprehensive input is provided before finalizing portfolio investment decisions.
- Leads activities to enable the identification and tracking of intra-portfolio and inter-portfolio risks; follows up with risk owners to ensure and mitigation plans are in place.
- Defines and collects portfolio-related key performance indicators and acts based on those as required.
Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in related field of study and sound related experience; MBA preferred.
- 10-12 years of relevant experience
- Strong project management skills: planning, tracking, project risk management, stakeholder management.
- Experience managing projects/programs in a regulated environment – preferably in medical devices.
- Understanding of agile methodologies & practical application; lean portfolio management would be an asset.
- Can collaborate with globally distributed teams and a wide variety of cross-functional stakeholders.
- You are analytical, communicative, and focused. You clearly express your ideas and research verbally and in writing. You are used to working independently, open to discussing ideas and solutions with your colleagues. You thrive in an international work environment.
