About the role

     

 

Position Summary

The Receiving Supervisor is responsible for leading all inbound material flow activities for a manufacturing facility producing architectural hardware products. This position oversees the receipt, inspection, identification, system transactions, storage, and put-away of all inbound raw materials, purchased finished goods, components, and supplier shipments. The role ensures inventory accuracy, material traceability, warehouse organization, and compliance with safety standards throughout the facility.

In addition to supervising the receiving team, the Receiving Supervisor provides functional leadership and governance over inventory transaction accuracy across the plant through a dotted-line relationship with all employees performing inventory movements and transactions in JD Edwards (JDE).

Key Responsibilities

Receiving & Inbound Logistics

  • Supervise the daily receipt and processing of all inbound materials entering the facility.
  • Ensure timely unloading, inspection, verification, and put-away of:
    • Long-length aluminum and metal extrusions.
    • Raw materials and manufacturing components.
    • Purchased finished goods.
    • MRO and indirect materials.
  • Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and system requirements.
  • Resolve receiving discrepancies, shortages, damages, and non-conforming materials with Purchasing, Planning, Quality, and suppliers.
  • Maintain efficient dock scheduling and material flow to support production requirements.

Inventory Control & Transaction Accuracy

  • Maintain ownership of inventory accuracy throughout the plant.
  • Ensure all inventory movements are accurately transacted in JD Edwards (JDE).
  • Monitor adherence to inventory transaction procedures by all departments.
  • Conduct audits to verify physical inventory matches system inventory.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory variances, transaction errors, and location discrepancies.
  • Drive root-cause corrective actions to improve inventory integrity.
  • Support cycle count and physical inventory processes.

Material Identification & Storage Management

  • Establish and maintain inventory labeling standards for all warehouse and plant storage locations.
  • Ensure proper material identification, traceability, and location accuracy.
  • Oversee storage practices that protect material condition and minimize damage.
  • Maintain organized warehouse locations, racks, staging areas, and floor storage.
  • Ensure FIFO and inventory rotation practices are followed where applicable.

Forklift & Material Handling Equipment Management

  • Manage the safe and efficient operation of forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • Coordinate forklift availability and utilization to support receiving and plant operations.
  • Ensure operators maintain required certifications and training.
  • Schedule and coordinate preventative maintenance and inspections.
  • Promote safe operation practices and compliance with OSHA and company standards.

Inventory Condition & Warehouse Compliance

  • Maintain accountability for inventory condition throughout storage and handling processes.
  • Monitor proper packaging, storage, and handling procedures.
  • Identify damaged, obsolete, or at-risk inventory and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Ensure warehouse housekeeping and 5S standards are maintained.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory control and warehouse efficiency.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of four direct reports.
  • Establish performance expectations and monitor productivity.
  • Conduct training on receiving procedures, inventory controls, safety practices, and JDE transaction requirements.
  • Partner with Production, Planning, Purchasing, Finance, and Quality departments to ensure alignment on inventory management processes.
  • Serve as the plant subject matter expert for receiving processes and inventory transaction discipline.

Dock, Yard & Outdoor Storage Management

  • Maintain ownership and oversight of all receiving-related physical storage and staging locations, including:
    • Covered dock areas
    • Inbound and outbound truck docks
    • Exterior storage locations
    • Secured fenced alleyway storage areas
