Basic Eligibility For A Position With The NRO

Where You Will Work 

The position serves as a National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) DoD Cadre General Engineer providing expert technical and professional advice on engineering issues affecting the NRO. The NRO develops and operates unique and innovative overhead reconnaissance systems and conducts intelligence-related activities essential for the U. S. national security. The work involves originating new and improved applications and· strategies for engineering or architecture concepts, theories, and principles that affect the planning, completion, and direction of major engineering or architecture projects. Work products or services of the position affects the work of other experts and the development of major aspects of administrative or scientific programs or missions.

The work consists of a variety of assignments involving many and unrelated engineering or architecture processes and methods. Decisions regarding what needs to be done require determining efficient, effective, and feasible solutions to meet the project or situation requirements and constraints. The work also requires considering different, incomplete, and often conflicting information and alternatives. Oversight responsibilities of the position require NRO Contracting Officer Technical Representative (COTR) qualification within NRO policy-defined timelines.

What You Will Be Doing 

  • Provide support for Spacecraft activities.
  • Participate in future spacecraft transitions and reviews to enhance NRO/NSA's missions.
  • Analyze and design performance indicators to identify key areas for improvement and find economies of scope/scale. 
  • Assesses project and program effectiveness.
  • Participate in mission system Engineering Review Boards and Maintenance Reviews.
  • Serves as an authoritative expert and consultant on a broad program, a highly specialized field, or for assignments, which affects national or international interests.
  • Makes decisions and executes and/or directs actions exploring, reconciling, and resolving major uncertainties, unique situations, obscure problems, or conflicting objectives typically resulting from the abstract nature of the concepts or the existence of serious conflicts among scientific requirements, technological developments, standards, program direction, and administrative requirements.
  • Evaluates the value and applicability of new or improved technology, strategies, trends, or applications.
  • Develops or reviews criteria, procedures, or instructions for a particular functional or specialized area.
