About the Position

The Correctional Health Services (CHS) Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of all clinical and medical activities within the Maricopa County Jail facilities. As CMO, you will be responsible for ensuring that all medical needs of the incarcerated population are met, and that care is provided in a safe and ethical manner, meeting Constitutional requirements. You will also oversee the development and implementation of policies, standard operating procedures, and clinical protocols related to inmate/patient medical care. The CHS Director and CMO are responsible for maintaining a care delivery system that is fiscally responsible and meets legal and regulatory requirements. From a clinical standpoint, this position ensures that CHS fulfills its mission of providing medically necessary, evidence-based, integrated health care to patients as they proceed through the judicial system.

We Require

  • Three years of experience practicing medicine in a government environment or correctional facility

  • Five years of experience supervising medical providers

  • Doctorate degree from an accredited School of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine

  • Completion of an approved U.S. Residency or Fellowship Training Program in Correctional Medicine or a related field

  • Valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Arizona

  • Board Certification

  • Experience with utilization and/or quality management

  • Correctional, Detention, or law enforcement-related experience

  • Experience handling complex employee issues, including addressing Human Resources-related concerns, maintaining FMLA/ADA compliance, and driving performance outcomes

Job Contributions

  • Collaborates with the CHS Executive Leadership Team regarding patient care, including establishing and implementing policies and procedures for clinical aspects of care, monitoring the appropriateness, timeliness, and responsiveness of care and treatment, and reviewing provider recommendations.

  • Acts as a liaison with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Detention Command, ensuring communication flows between the two entities regarding medical services

  • Partners with the CHS
