PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The purpose of this job is to provide critical technical support for the Company’s investment portfolio which is a source of income, liquidity, and capital stability. This role will execute key control functions and provide valuable insight into both capital market activity as well as investment performance. Accordingly, this high-profile role is a key business partner for the Company’s portfolio managers, senior management, and regulators.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Executes critical controllership for ICW Group’s investment portfolio.
- Leverages the Company’s investment subledger to review key investment activity including purchases, sales, interest accruals, amortization/accretion, and capital transactions.
- Prepares journal entries and performs necessary reconciliations to support official recordkeeping in the Company’s general ledger.
- Works with brokers and custodial banking partners to ensure efficient execution of trading activity.
- Develops policies and procedures, as necessary, to develop efficiencies and improve accuracy for investment accounting.
- Responds to auditor’s requests for quarter-end and year-end audit items including process walkthroughs, control documentation, and ad-hoc analysis.
- Prepares audit schedules in accordance with the Company’s external auditors' requirements.
Performs critical reporting and provides insights to key stakeholders.
- Prepares key investment schedules as required by insurance departments and other regulatory agencies.
- Prepares management reports for senior leadership to summarize investment balances, results, and trends. Ensures completeness, accuracy, and timely delivery of completed results.
- Performs ad-hoc reporting, as necessary to provide key insights into the company’s investment performance in the context of the broader capital markets.
- Develops methods for continuing process improvements for reporting and analysis based on evolving technological capabilities available to the Company.

This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required with a major or emphasis in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Working knowledge of investment accounting required.
- Familiarity of insurance industry desirable.
- Requires excellent computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and state regulations.
- Strong technical accounting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytics skills to interpret and evaluate financial results. Ability to work directly with executive management regarding investment transactions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use independent judgement and discretion to identify key trends or issues.
- Support effective partnerships with key groups and individuals and have good consultation and change management skills.

Office environment – no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands and employees are regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear.

This position operates in an office environment and requires the frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment.
