Ideal Candidate
The Hillsborough County Solid Waste Department is seeking a Solid Waste Equipment Operator to assist operate vehicles, motorized and light equipment at the Solid Waste facilities. The ideal candidate will have the ability to perform manual labor in outside solid waste environment, exposed to heat, sun, high humidity, rain and other adverse weather conditions. Candidate will walk/stand for prolonged periods of time (approximately six (6) hours) per day. The job also requires frequent fine manipulations, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds, and occasional bending, crawling, climbing and stooping.

Job Distinctions
Operates light equipment at transfer station for site clean-up, ensures equipment is in working condition and/or makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, directs traffic and guides customers for proper unloading of waste, inspects solid waste material received and removes unauthorized materials.

This critical position is designed to operate heavy equipment utilized for the collection, processing and transport of solid waste at the transfer stations and Community Collection Centers.
Duties and Responsibilities

Operates motorized equipment such as pickup trucks, front-end loaders, skid steers, street sweepers, and other similar equipment to perform a variety of solid waste operational functions, including performing site clean-up. Operation of motorized equipment constitutes at least 50% of daily job duties.
Checks and ensures that equipment is serviced and in good working condition; makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and ensures that periodic maintenance and major repairs are performed.
Performs daily safety inspections and observes proper safety practices and regulations when operating or working around equipment.
